Ooooo, lotsa good suff, I'm using the HD80's, which are just about HD600's for sound and they are great, my favorite so far by far. They have a smooth sound that is less bright (shrill, overly sparkly) than the 590's, with better bass and midrange. You're basically taking one great step up, IMO. And they take cable upgrades that can make them real powerhouses.

Hehe, I get alot of that when I'm jamming in my HD580's, although I can hear past the 'Sennhiser Veil', IMO. I actually also like them for rock music too.

It will depend a lot on what you're driving them with. If you don't have a lot of amplification, then they can sound muddy, dark, and closed-in next to the 590's. They need substantially more juice.

Basically, you should expect better bass resolution but less bass impact and very slightly less bass quantity. The treble will be a lot less forward but all the detail will be there. The midrange will be more upfront and have a definite liquid quality which the 590 lacks. The 590 has a natural midrange when it's recabled and a somewhat hollow midrange with the stock cable - the 600 adds a dollop of lushness to it that sounds quite nice though perhaps isn't 100% accurate.

I do prefer the 600 over the 590, but the 590 is still a very nice headphone. I wouldn't say that you're making a giant step forward in quality, but it will be a noticeable improvement. If your amp is up to the task.

arielext,

I have a pair of HD590's and have the option of being able to upgrade to HD600's, so I'd be very interested to hear your impressions when you receive your new cans.
