i hope this is not a snob thread. i am a roadie but after my wife's recent fear of the pavement, i have compromised by getting a cyclocross bike which i mainly use now for low-impact mountain trails and when with mates, on the road with my road wheelset.

can i be counted here?
bike is marinoni Fango 08 with Centaur groupset and all custom-steel and outfited for long treks and touring.

mid-late 90's, 2000s... there was a lot of tricknology on show! brand new sexy low-slung MTBs waiting to be fondled! some had belt drives, hydraulic gears, brand new caliper MTB designs, bouncing up & down on the forks, radical fangled shifters, evil looking downhill machines, radically different to bikes tomac used to win on early 90's! mint sauce!!!

man that used to be a highlight, i'd save some cash just for new shimano! most bikes have all this in some shape or manner... we just need the sparkle back!

Bah! Broke my saddle recently (bent rails). Can I just bend them back or do I need to get a new saddle?

Is that saddle a WTB? They tend to do that, they are Ti. Usually you can pop them back (it's a pain) and some saddle manufacturer offer a warranty regarding this! (popped out rails)

cyclocross are meant mainly to be offroad racers. they handle very well on trails and over forgiving mountain bike obstacles but they don't do full technical trails or hills with tight turns as the cantilever brakes are meant to shed mud rather than stopping the rider. as a former roadie I see no better option if I am to ride only one bike

when i went through my brief bike-nerd phase i ended up getting an ibex alpine. i've been pretty happy with it overall (aside from having to replace the chain as soon as i got it due to a stuck link), but haven't gotten as much use as i'd like.

Lots of bikes - bikes are my thing a lot moreso than headphones. So apologies for the multiple bikes... They are all Singulars - my company, thus the handle...

Gryphon monstercross - 29er with drop bars, rigid specific

Swift - 29er flat bar, can be singlespeed or geared

Pegasus - Ti frame, carbon fork, this build was from a bit of cross racing over the winter.

Peregrine - Cross/monstercross/touring kinda allrounder really

Laxx - if the rail is actually bent you need a new saddle, if it's just popped out of the shell you can sometimes wrestle them back in therebut it's not easy.
