Most over rated genre (major boring) Your experience.

I really cannot stand modern dubstep. Sometimes I really wonder what goes through producers heads when the decide on what should come after the drop. Roaring, distorted midbass interspliced with bleepy, chainsaw sounds? It's all the same. It's painful to listen to as well as a complete bore. What happened to the good ole days of dubstep when producers like Mala and Loefah ruled the roost?

Both of those cuts had good drumming. It wasn't the repetitive boom chockka lockka I've heard in the other examples. At least the rhythm was good.

Neurosis is fond of incorporating "tribal" (as they call them) drums/drumming into their songs. While at first it manifested itself into 15 minute long jam sessions with digeridoos and chanting, it's incorporated itself nicely into the music over time.

Man, that stuff was dismal. Can't anyone in heavy metal write decent lyrics or sing?

The aspect of the drumming that I liked in the previous videos was the variations. It wasn't locked into a repetitive groove.

You missed the point.

1. It's intentionally dismal.

2. YOU MUST LET THE GROOVE CONTROL YOU.

LET IT IN

IT WILL CONSUME YOU

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

*flips over desk*

but in all seriousness, your complaints are my compliments.

I think Rusko said it best:

Basically, Americans wrecked it.

Slayer's Reign in Blood album has some of the best lyrics in metal IMO. It's very sadistic and twisted in a colorful way. Really sick imagery but brilliant.

Haha indeed. They just don't understand this kind of music. No wonder it belong to the "underground". And thank goodness...

Technical wankery in prog? Such as?

Such as musicians displaying their mad skillz in playing instruments just for the sake of it. It's very overindulgent.

More often that not, listening to prog feels like the artists saying "Hey, look at me, I can play this instrument really well!" even though it feels very clinical and academic instead of something that I can make a personal connection to.

Many songs on the radio get so overplayed it's ridiculous. Don't they have playlists longer than 2 hrs? Should be about 4.

More specifically, I dislike the diluted EDM invading pop these days. Especially that mediocre dubstep you hear in many of Britney's songs or for example in Flo Rida's song Good Feeling. I can't wait for this trend to die. Meanwhile I listen to actual EDM
