I'm thinking; what's the most essential 80's film.

you know, that film that "hits" the 80's sweetspot.

you've got;

breakfast club
platoon
full metal jacket
ferris bueller
back to the future
scarface
harry met sally.etc.

but to me... it's wall street..

this film is so 80's... just like a sony wm-dc2 and kate bush - hounds of love

perhaps there are some of you, who know a more 80's film..
but, i can't think of a better one.

terminator
against all odds
big trouble in little china
buckaroo banzai
return of the living dead
repo man
blue velvet

all hit that '80's sweets spot in different ways for me...

Wall Street is a pretty good one. Two more that come to mind are:

"Less Than Zero"
"Mannequin"

Both display the excess, the fashion, the attitude of the time, albeit one as a drama and the other as a comedy/romance.

I would go with wall street as well. One of Oliver Stones best works.

though I love Platoon and Full Metal Jacket even more, I think that the style of writing, direction, conematography, complex simplicity and overall attitude of Ferris Bueller's Day Off is fantastic and enjoyable to just about everyone. Breakfast Club also had a great amount of interesting characters revealed 0 the character within perhaps - but I have only seen it once and don't remember all of the details.
Have heard some things about them, but I haven't seen Blue Velvet or Wall Street though I have been meaning to.
I am sure we are missing some other movies, but Ferris Bueller is a legend. Broderick did another movie that is great and gritty as well, Election, which I love and you guys might want to check out thought it can be rough on some folks.
