Most bassy closed, un-amped (Thru MiniDisk) for $150 USD or less?

Hmm well I went to the store and tested out the 7506's today for about an hour (im still surprised they let me stand their and use them that long [btw, it was a demo pair so it was well burned in]) and the lower bass almost made me crap my pants, but the mids seemed oh so weak compared to what I was used to, and the phones seemed to play the songs really flat sounding.... so I guess I still gotta look around

They actually have a very "flat" response as they are ment for studio work. For rock though they are really good.

The V6 and 7506 are bass-light?!? What?? They had scads to my mind--I would also imagine the Beyer 250-80 would fulfill your needs quite nicely.

I use my v6 with a cmoy (2132P chip and 1000 uF caps) I just made and they sound great. Not quite as flat as without the amp, and the bass is excellent and tight

until the volume is all the way up and it starts distorting

. BTW, I got my v6s for 60 bucks refurbished and they're probably one of my best buys

Could an amp better than a cmoy prevent the V6 from distorting at high spl? ahhh all the way up! you got me there

Everything sounds better with an amp

Even my lousy MDR-NC10 sounds good with a heck of resistance added at the input of the headphone and hooked up to the output of my home audio system amp.

Actually, blackthorne thought the V6 and 7506 are midrange-light. The bass, on the other hand, goes down so deep that he (literally) peed on his pants!
