Hello everybody:) I am new on this forum, and I hope you will help me. I just bought he 58x and Schiit Magni 3+, the headphones are ok but not what I expected..few years ago I had HD598 and they were stolen unfortunately. And as far as I can remember I liked them better cause they sounded more life like I would say, like I am on a concert listening to a live performance. 58x don’t give me that feeling and that’s why I don’t like them, they sound more plain and boring to me(maybe of the soundstage? maybe that’s what gave me better feeling of “live performance “ in HD598?). Could you please recommend me something what would give me that life like, spacious and full sound? I would like to stay under 300-350 budget for headphone. I play music from my 2020 iPad Pro ( that iPad dongle dac should not be a real issue I think). Using Tidal Hifi. I was looking in direction of he4xx, sundara maybe. But I would appreciate your feedback and advice, thank you very much!

Was going to recommend either of those two headphones! Especially if you listen to rock.
I've got the HE4XX running through my FiiO M11 w/ a 2.5mm balanced cable. Love those things - my go to rock because of the detail and sound stage. I went HE4XX because they are considerably cheaper than the Sundara's on Drop right now, but a lot of people seem to recommend the Sundara's anyways.

If that iPad dongle works for you then it works, but the DAC is a pretty important piece to the sound path puzzle. Sometimes, it can make the different between music sounding cramped or open and airy (depending on the rest of the sound path as well of course).

I mostly listen to pop and a lot of vocals:wink: I might add a separate dad later on) just want to find headphones they will suit me better than 58x better

I've found my HD58X to be livly.
Have you tried plugging the HD58X into another source, to see if the sound changes?

Your main problem there is power. If I'm listening on my desktop system with a Cantate.2 driving the HD600 (300ohm original version of the HD58X) and even the lower sensitivity AKG K70x they're just as lively as a Grado SR225, and apart from the K701, has much better low end as well since they don't have the peaks of the SR225, which also doesn't use any of the additional power (ie it runs about the same on my Ibasso D-Zero, other than more definition in the low end but the rolled off response of that portable amp with some headphones also means it sounds brighter on the Cantate.2).

Your best bet is the SR225e as it's at least smoother at the top end than the old SR225, but even higher sensitivity without raising the impedance.

Scratch the HE4XX and Sundara off your list if you're looking for "lively" but using a mainstream device's built in audio chip to drive it since it needs more than double the power of the HD600/58X.

I am driving it from magni 3+, just tried to connect to different devices ( with magni 3+) to see if maybe different dacs from my laptop or phone or tablet will make any change and they didn't (

If you have the Magni3 then sensitivity and tonal balance are the next factors. Problem is if you already have that much power it won't make a difference for the SR225 over the HD600 getting that, you have to get something livelier than even the SR225. Maybe look for a used RS1.

FYI, the Grado SR225E is quite a bit brighter in the treble than the Senn HD 58x Jubilee, which is more laid back in that area...

The Grado is also brighter in the treble than the OP's original Senn HD 598, which is somewhere in between the two...
