Monster Turbines vs Head-Direct RE2?

Jun 20, 2011 at 10:18 AM Post #16 of 29
Well, RE0 has excellent bass quality and neutral quantity. It just reproduces what's there on the recording. It does require a good source to bring out the full dynamics and definition in the low end. If you have a weak source, like a Sansa Clip, it may indeed be a better idea to get the RE-ZERO, which are lower impedance and easier to drive out of weaker amps.

Is the OP even using an amp?  Without an amp, I know for a fact that the RE0 are just below (a tiny bit) neutral and lacking a body.  I'm not saying the RE0s are bad, I'm just saying that they might not work as well for dubstep and hip hop compared to other headphones out there that have a bit more emphasis on bass.

For me the bass on RE0 is acceptable even when it is unamped.

I suppose another option is the RE Zero which from all reports is a bassier version of the RE0.

I haven't actually heard it, so I'm not really in a position to give a conclusive opinion about it.

I've heard about a few durability issues with the RE0 and RE Zero. o_o; Is that a problem in most?

My source is either my iPhone 4(Verizon) or my iPod Nano6G.

I'll be running with a PA2V2 that I'm actually buying for my full-sized 'phones.

I just honestly don't want to LOSE any bass. Quality is a major issue, with quantity taking a backseat. Like I said, I'll be letting my full-sized cans to really give me that umph. I want clarity all around, but if it happens to have extra bas, that would be nice.

What cans do you have?

If you don't care at all about bass quantity (just care about bass quality), then get the RE0s (or RE-ZEROs since you aren't running amped).  Be warned that there are headphones with adequate bass quality and some quantity (M3s for example have a little more quantity without giving up quality).  If you take care of them (RE0 or REZero), the headphones should last.  RE-ZEROs are said to have better build.

Well, I think Etymotic ER4, especially the S has even less bass. RE0 is neutral in quantity.

I'm getting Shure SRH750DJ's in September, and I hope to buy ATH-M50's shortly after for comparison's sake.

Are the M3's decent for other genre's as well?

I'll be sure to read up on that.

Yes, I've just been listening to my RE0s all morning and I absolutely agree with this.

Speaking from personal experience, headphones like the AD900 and K701 reduce bass quantity in order to emphasize detail. The RE0 does no such thing. It just doesn't boost the bass.
If it does sound like it is reducing the bass, you haven't got a good fit.

My last post seems a bit harsh in retrospect, sorry about that Pianist.

OP, have you heard the M50 by any chance? The CC51 has a comparable quantity of bass.

It's OK. Nothing to be sorry about.

RE0 has much less bass than the SRH750 DJ, which are very bass heavy cans. A headphone from the Shure line up similar to RE0 in bass quantity (and overall sound quality) is the SRH940. SRH840 is close too, but has more mid bass emphasis than RE0.

I have both the RE0 and Monster Turbines.  The Monster Turbine bass is very similar to the Panasonic HJE900, though they're not as bright.

The RE0 are great and sound neutral w/o an amp, though a bit light on bass.

Amped, however, the RE0 come alive and the bass sounds quite full and clear.  Much more so than the Monster Turbines.

I also listen to Dubstep and prefer the RE0 (amped of course) over the Turbines because the bass is much more defined and clear, which is what you really want when you WAIT FOR THE DROP.

I've taken a look at the RE0, RE-Zero, and CC51 on a side by side comparison through joker's reviews, and I must say that the Zero's seem to top the bunch off. The CC51's seem like amazing headphones, but considering that the Zero's got a better review in terms of sound, I'll probably take my chance on them.

Well, I wasn't expecting to find something on par with the SRH750DJ's bass while maintaining clarity in the other aspects(for the ballpark price of $100). Haha, these RE0 and RE-Zeros seems amazing. I just hope they don't break. Do they have a warranty available?

That sounds great! I can't wait to get my hands on the RE0's(or possibly the Zero's)!

Thanks everyone. You have all been extremely helpful in my decision. Odds are that I'll be getting the Zeros. Hopefully the PA2V2 amp will suffice for the time being, as I don't plan to buy a better amp until sometime next year. Thanks again, my friends! I love this community more and more every day.
