My Modi NEVER had that issue. Probably a defective unit. If that scares you off, so be it, but you'll find a ton of cases like that in this community; cases of one person reporting a serious issue, but no one else has the problem. It's a thing among audio gear. There can be slight variances unit-to-unit.

but what about tube amps?What do you think?I've read their sound is smoother and warmer but they bring more distortion.

Here's a thread for this very comparison: http://www.head-fi.org/t/643368/schiit-modi-and-magni-comparison-to-bifrost-and-asgard Now, it's for the original Asgard, which is actually fairly close to the Magni, but maybe it'll be of some use to you. The Asgard 2 is more significant an upgrade. Uses a lot of design stuff from the Mjolnir, plus a low/high gain switch and preamps.

Better sound stage w bifrost. But worth the extra $. Tough call.
