Modern bands that sound like "classic rock?"

I've only heard samples of Comets on Fire but proglife is right that they're much heavier than Black Mountain, and probably more proggy too. I was a little bored with Black Mountain at first as well, but it really grew on me. Lots of depth and it has a nice vintage sound and some real honest guitar wanking. Cool record without any real excesses even though it does get kind weird toward the end with the introduction of some electronica, but turns out I like that too. Gets kind of dreamy psychedelic at times even, which I like a lot. Yeah, boring for some, but not me. Kind of like that Wayne Robbins & The Hellsayers disk I like so much that also gets kind of dreamy and psych, except much more Neil Young in those guys, although Black Mountain crosses a little into Buffalo Springfield territory too so maybe not much of a stretch.

It seems like the Druganaut EP by Black Mountain might be a good intro to the band; two long jams (longer than the album) plus two other tunes. Samples sounded very good.

I don't know, Druganaut is a pretty cool song, that's the one that almost breaks into Mountain's "Mississippi Queen". Heavy Zep riff, but over too soon on the LP. And that "No Satisfaction" is playfully named for the obvious Stones feel. Don't know the other two, but there's a lot of good stuff on the LP that isn't on that EP. The nice long anti-war song "Set Us Free" is one of a few highlights with some cool Rhodes piano playing against the guitars, Amber shading Stephen's vocals and even sounding a tiny bit like a young Grace Slick. Guess it depends on the cost. EPs are usually a terrible deal IMO since they usually cost almost the same as I can get the full album for, so I almost never buy them unless they're completely unique.

Well see, there ya go! That's a lot better than the $9.99 amazon wants for the new EP, or the $9.90 the marketplace wants for the new LP. I might have to score a download of that extended mix myself

Just so there's no confusion, only the track was $0.99. The whole EP is $3.96 (four tracks) and the LP is $7.92.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have researched a lot of the bands that were recommended and am narrowing it down to which albums I want to buy.

Are there any modern bands that have that classic rock/blues sound? Like Led Zep I, Derek and the Dominos, Free - Tons of Sobs, Ten Years After, etc?

Click five's album house from Imrie sounds like pop but it also has a sound similar to classic rock. Their song in the album, "Angel to You (Devil to Me)" has a really nice solo.

Oasis is one awesome band that sounds like classic rock. CHeck out their song wonderwall.

Check out Tishimingo.Their a band from Athens Ga that have an Allman Brothers type of sound, alot of slide guitar,but also have a kind of 60s late 70s roots music feel to their music.I saw them live at Ashevilles Bele Chere festival a couple of years ago and have been a fan of them ever since.

Check out this band from Philly. Red Letter Life they have a song "Abbey" which is very classic 60's rock, nice guitar solo.

Wolfmother sounds old-ish to me, at least the first album did.  Also, MGMT's newest album has some songs that have a sort of 1960's-ish psychedelia feel to them imo. (haven't listened to any of their other stuff.)
