I am pleased with both my Sony MA900 and Sennheiser HD598 (especially from my iPod Classic via FiiO LOD and Topping NX1 on low gain) but would like to try the K702, which although only 62 Ohms impedance, is said to be very hard to drive
My question is;
Would the Topping NX1 in high gain power the K702 adequately enough for me to be able to derive the soundstage and detail for which the K702 is famous? If not, which "budget" amp (if any) would do the trick?

this might be a helpful resource: http://www.audiobot9000.com/akg/h/k-702

edit: while the Topping NX1 is not on there, you can use the k702 specs & the toppings specs to do the calculations yourself.

Matching AKG K 702 with Topping NX1

Audiobot Notes & Calculations
Peak SPL 110.0 dB *

This amp has enough power for these headphones

* This value was approximated from the power output at 32 Ω because the impedances do not match exactly.

Thanks for that! I found the specs in the drop down menu, and it says that the NX1 does have enough power; as it is a pretty neutral amp it should be fine. Would its very low (almost zero) impedance output be a problem with the K702? Thinking about the 8 times rule

Just to be clear, they are not hard to drive, even my iPhone can power them to my listening volume or even twice the loud! However, the true potential of it is not there with the iPhone. The more power you feed them with = the better sound. Good dynamic amp/DAC will benefit it too!

Look into the E09K / E12 :)

Hope it helps
