can't believe it has been a year with the 109 pro now
still love them today, and i have not been thinking about a new headphone so far
but maybe a replacement for my k7 but i am worried it might not be worth it.

the tonality and comfort is just perfect to me
If you are enjoying your setup now I implore you not to change it. Don't succumb to the audiophile sickness we all have. Be happy you've achieved sonic satisfaction.

Hey all a buddy of mine got me the Meze 109 pro recently as a gift and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what type of music the 109 excels at? Or if there's any good songs that really shine on the 109.

109 are very universal, but I like listening to rock (boosted mid-bass) and jazz (shiny treble) on them the most.

I just got the FiiO KA17 dongle DAC. It’s a very nice pairing with the 109Pro. I don’t need any EQ.
On Desktop mode, the 600mW power give a nice tight grip on the 109 drivers. Lovely sound.

Going to list my 109pro soon. With all packaging and the 4m copper Meze XLR cable. Excellent shape.

Lovely headphones, but going to sell a few things. Looking to upgrade to the Caldera as my end game full size cans, and just focus on IEM after that.

Cheers!

To me, and it’s only my opinion, the upgrade doesn’t seem worthwhile. I also own the K7, and I don’t feel that I’m missing anything or that the sound isn’t pure enough. In my local headphone store, I’ve tried many DACs and headphone amplifiers (such as Vioelectric and Chord), but I didn’t notice any significant improvement in the 109s that would justify the price difference or the upgrade. I believe that if the signal is clear and powerful enough, and there’s nothing wrong with the synergy, the real improvement can only be achieved by changing the headphones. For instance, consider the Empyrean II, which are the big brothers of the 109s.

Again, it´s only IMHO.

Hi everyone.

I’m interested in potentially purchasing the Meze 109 Pro.
However, DMS said he wasn’t that impressed with them when running on tubes.
I run a iBasso DX320 edition X with the Amp 14 module which is a dual nutube setup and it sounds awesome.
Just wondering if anyone here has any experiences with the 109 pro on tubes, and if so how does it sound especially the treble end of things?

Thanks all

I share the same opinion. In my experience, the 109s don’t really mesh well with tube amps. I’ve given a few tube and microtube amplifiers a shot in my local headphone store, but the outcome wasn’t great. These headphones don’t need a ton of power, but they do their best with a clean and neutral source.

They do great with a Feliks Envy, so it's not like they don't pair well with tubes in general.
Always depends on the Implementation.

Unfortunately I can't weigh in on your iBasso since I never heard that combination

I have to admit, I love the HD660S2s and the Meze 109 Pros. I am keeping them both.

I haven’t heard the 109Pro but I did audition the Liric2, the Empyrean 2 and Elite (at CanJam NYC) on my A&K PA10 Class A portable amp via my Hiiby R6 Pro II DAP. The Liric 2 really impressed but I really wasn’t that impressed with the Elite or Empyrean2.

This is a difficult hobby

Agreed. It depends on the quality of the amp. I heard them on the LTA Velo and they sounded amazing. Treble quality was unaffected, bass sounded a bit fuller but nothing drastic.

Just great. I'm addicted to these 109s. Just a simple, beautiful setup. 109s connected to an iBasso DC06 Pro through Audirvana on my 2023 MBP M2. I've been around for a long time but hearing Carly Simon's "You're so vain" on these things is like hearing a completely new song. I'm always striving for satisfying sound. My ears are sooo sensitive. Now, after so many years, I believe they've finally found a home.
