100+ Head-Fier
But they are so damn 'musical' and non-Hifi (to these ears). Build is ... like you say ... 1940's but there is probably a reason for it, they stood the test of time and last plus, they are still made in Brooklyn by the same family. Buy a little historyDepends on how much you value comfort and build quality.
Grados are NOT comfortable for many people because they're on ear, with scratchy, thin pads. One almost-unanimous area of praise for the 109 Pro is comfort, whether it's the plush pads or ideal clamping force for many.
Meze also has excellent build quality. Entry-level Grados are built like World War II radio headsets. Pretty flimsy, with a rod-block adjustment mechanism that's prone to wear and slipping over time.
To use a football analogy, Grados are like the Manchester United of headphones because of their unique sound signature, on-ear form and build. People either love them or hate them; there's little in-between.
Good luck!
