Meze Audio 109 Pro

can anyone explain to a noob what this eq did to my 109 pro? i used oratory1990s preset. and i find they soud quite nice with it.
When I tried this I found the overall sound signature to be darker, that shelf after 10k made the top end a lot less spicy but lost a lot of air. I messed with a few EQ's that you can read in this thread, but ultimately the 109's sounded better to me without EQ.

EQ1:
  • Preamp: -4.4 dBFilter
  • 1: ON PK Fc 95 Hz Gain -1.1 dB Q 0.500Filter
  • 2: ON LSC Fc 100 Hz Gain 3.0 dB Q 0.800Filter
  • 3: ON PK Fc 880 Hz Gain -0.9 dB Q 2.000Filter
  • 4: ON PK Fc 1900 Hz Gain 3.5 dB Q 1.000Filter
  • 5: ON PK Fc 2450 Hz Gain 2.5 dB Q 1.500Filter
  • 6: ON PK Fc 2850 Hz Gain -2.5 dB Q 4.000Filter
  • 7: ON PK Fc 3850 Hz Gain -1.0 dB Q 0.700Filter
  • 8: ON PK Fc 3870 Hz Gain -1.0 dB Q 4.000Filter
  • 9: ON PK Fc 7270 Hz Gain -2.8 dB Q 4.000Filter
  • 10: ON HSC Fc 12200 Hz Gain -5.0 dB Q 0.700
EQ2: Pretty much the same, but

Reduce the gain on 12200Hz and lemme see from -5 to -3
Also increase the gain on 7270Hz from -2.8 to -2
Also increase the gain on 2850Hz from -2.5 to -1
Preamp -4.6db

the list was a little messy to look at too me but thanks anyway
but i think the eq i use made the 109 sound a little like the 660 s2 but with a wider stage which is great to me

I have heard and read on several occasions that the 109's stock cable has significant negative impact on the sound quality. How much truth is there to that?
Not any amount to be concerned with. The reason to upgrade cables should be for length, termination, or ergonomics more than anything else. There’s a lot of snake oil and placebo effect in the cable realm.

A lot of people are blown away of this headset. I’m wandering if they worth it for starter in this hobby or I should start with entry Gredos as example?
Depends on how much you value comfort and build quality.

Grados are NOT comfortable for many people because they're on ear, with scratchy, thin pads. One almost-unanimous area of praise for the 109 Pro is comfort, whether it's the plush pads or ideal clamping force for many.

Meze also has excellent build quality. Entry-level Grados are built like World War II radio headsets. Pretty flimsy, with a rod-block adjustment mechanism that's prone to wear and slipping over time.

To use a football analogy, Grados are like the Manchester United of headphones because of their unique sound signature, on-ear form and build. People either love them or hate them; there's little in-between.

Good luck!

Yes I have seen couple videos about Grado. Also issue with Grado’s is cabling.

I am currently listening to one of my favourite headphones, the Grado GH2's. And yes, I do Hate the cable.
The stock pads did hurt one ear, so I replaced the pads with a different brand. These headphones are now about five and a half years old and I cannot imagine ever selling them.

Some Grado's can be pretty bright. I started out with the SR325e's and while I liked the sound, they were too bright for me.
The GH2's are bliss for me. But of course, everyone's different.
