What difference to the sound will a balanced cable make?

It is not going to be a night and day difference and it would depend on your source as well.

It will mostly depend on the source. Some folks like it better, some don't

I tried it both ways by now and gotta say - BAL does sound awesome. But it relies on how good the AMP is and how good the AMP is with BAL itself.

Gone balanced. How does it sound? Hard to say yet. A little better with bass with not much break-in time. There seems to be a better control of it, which is expected with the overall 21awg wire i got. i used the connectors and mod kit recommended by DHC cables. Only drawback, the connectors do scrape the wooden shell a little when plugging/unplugging as mentioned by another member.

One little thing that fixed the extra bass for me was simple: throw the pads underneath a bunch of heavy books! Don't worry; they'll mostly retain their shape with 48 hours of weight. Made them more comfy for me too.

I am actually finding that they are naturally loosening up and that the sub bass is becoming more tame. I am finding that sub-bass texture has perked up a bit too. While I should be focusing on my 12 Classics review as well as finish up with the iPurifier2 I have on loan I have been enjoying the larger ear pads way too much and as a result have racked up quite a few hours with them. On that note, last Saturday I had an almost 5 hour straight listening session with the 99 Classics. Not once did I crack the seal or re-adjust, and yet the larger pads remained both (relatively) cool and comfortable.

  @MezeTeam

any update on the promised balanced cable?
would really love to update my pair of 99`s with an original cable.

Hey Jacuzzi!

Well they are in the making. No updates as of yet but you should expect them in the April-May period. We'll let you guys know about them, as a matter of fact you will most likely be the first to know about the cables.

Cheers!

I was just talking to Lee at Venture Electronics since I like their cables a lot but the Meze is difficult because the entry point is so narrow/recessed.

I think the safest bet is to wait for Meze to release their balanced cable.

I have had my 99 Classics for about two weeks now, I used two files from this website for the burn in process I did 40 hours of pink noise as well as sinlog2 for my burn in. I do the same on all my headphones and I do it just a touch past listening volume. "That was two weeks ago roughly when I did that''

These headphones are great like every says the build quality and materials are top notch so I'm not going to just repeat what every says, they are well worth it, they are awesome for 310$ Canadian. At that price you probably can not get a better deal.

Pros: Gaming on PC, these are beast gaming headphones the way they are tuned is just perfect for gaming and movies, very clear and open sounding with some really nice bass when you want it. "I prefer these for gaming over my DT990 cans, hands down''

Listening to any new age music like Lindsey Stirling, Peter Hollens, Pentatonix and any music that has a lot of bass, these headphones do have wonderful bass and they stay tight and don't get sloppy when the frequency gets low, just wonderful tight bass I can't say anymore. If you listen to Rap and RnB these will sound great. Same goes for anything electronic like Hardcore, Rotterdamn, House, Dubstep etc.

Audio clarity overall is great so I wouldn't recommend mp3's at all, just for ****s I downloaded a few songs I have on I-Tunes in mp3 format and swapped back and forth between flac and mp3 its a noticeable difference. So clarity is great they seem very accurate.

Cons: Recesses mids.

Listening to different types of metal, Metallica, Nightwish, Disturbed, Iron Maiden. Anything in the metal genera as well as most Jazz and Blues really needs good up front mids in my opinion or at least to my ear it does anyhow, these cans lack that and then some. Luckily it's not hard to tweak an e.q. and get them to do what you want but in all honesty for some music if you aren't a bit of a bass head these might not be for you.

Lastly like I mentioned earlier everything people say about build quality and packaging, the case they come in etc that is all spot on I just don't like to really repeat whats already been said. I just wanted to do a review on how I feel the sound is on these headphones.

Overall for what it is worth I couldn't be happier with these.

Just wanted to point out that iTunes sells AAC files, not Mp3. So if you're transcoding them to FLAC and MP3, you'll get transcoding artifacts with the AAC -> MP3 conversion..

What amp would folk recommend with the 99 Classics?

They're really easy to drive in my experience so a amp shouldn't really be necessary but a clean and clear source would be recommended. Imo anything that adds more warmth and bass will put them over the edge. As always ymmw :)

The 99C can be driven on nothing more than kitten farts and sound d@mn good. But a nice clean DAC & Amp will improve everything.

You can go for something as simple as the Dragonfly Black or Red, or if you want a bit higher quality, the Geek Out Plus.
