If you look at the pics on the website, it appears that the cables are stripped from the Y connection up.

No idea what to say then

One thing is for sure, I didn't really get much microphonics with 99C although I have the version with fabrics over the whole cable.

If I do ever get microophonics with a headphone, I place a portion of the cable in my t-shirt. In this case, the Y connector.

EDIT::: The situation in which I did get cable was if using the short cable and touching it while working on the computer, but this is why I am using the longer cable while working on my computer. No microhponics, no problems. For portable usage, the short cable works out just fine for me, but it might be a personal usage thing.

Thanks, I appreciate your input. It's not that big a deal.  If I find it to be a continued annoyance, I'll just order a new cable from Meze ($20, no tax or shipping).

By the way, about how sweaty the pads can get.

Today, it was about ~20C in Romania. Maybe ~25C in Bucharest.

At any rate, my ears didn't sweat, and I still found 99C to be comfortable in those conditions. This alone should say enough about how comfortable 99C is in heat.

My ears would sweat considerably more when using DJ One Pro, making Dj One Pro unbearable after a while. 99C didn't suffer from any of those problems and I've been able to use them for almost 2 hours straight outside, even at ~25C. Nice thing to discover.

In my experience the HM5 pads change the sound negatively, bass became loose and the midrange took a backseat due to the distance from the driver. I decided not to swap the Meze pads to a third party earpad since any distance from the driver will mess up the sound.

I did manage to improve the comfort quite a bit by swapping the low density foam from the original pads the headphones originally came with to the Large 99C pads which came with medium density foam to turn the Large pads into the plushiest pads ever, with no sacrifice in sound quality.

This solved the comfort issue for me and can wear them for hours on end now without any discomfort or irritation on my ears.

Thanks for the input.  I think that is the case.  I also noticed that the ear pads from the Maple set have a seam in them while the pads from the Walnut have no seam.

Either way, it's not a big deal.  They are comfortable and perform well.  They were a decent deal for $185.

Hey @Preachy1 and @Dobrescu George

That is correct, the new cables are rubberized from the Y splitter upwards. We heard a lot of people in the forums suggesting this to reduce the microphonics in the cable so we just did it. The latest versions of 99 Classics Walnut Gold and Walnut Silver as well as the upcoming 99 Neo come with this updated cable.

Hope this shed some light on your question.

Cheers!

Thanks very much for your response.  Also got an email from your team.  Glad to see that you are monitoring our comments here.  Love these cans!!!  I will be purchasing an upgraded cable for my Maples.

Is it possible to use aftermarket HIFIMAN/Oppo cables w/ 2.5 mm dual-entry connectors on these, or do the cups need to be modified (bored-out a bit) to facilitate this?

The Meze 99 Classic uses 3.5mm connectors

Oh, you're right. Shoot.

So, yeah, what about those balanced cables? 3.5mm mono connectors aren't particularly common.

I was just talking to Lee at Venture Electronics since I like their cables a lot but the Meze is difficult because the entry point is so narrow/recessed.

I think the safest bet is to wait for Meze to release their balanced cable.
