Since Pinky now has such might and power, I've just published my Meze review on The Headphone List. It's the same one I posted here on Head-Fi a month ago, but still. It's cool to see it up there.

I think they really aren't meant for people with big head and ears. The pseudo "over-ear" earpads cause major discomfort and now the headband broke:

Should I ask for a free new headband or is it my fault because my head is big?

Perhaps you should ask for a smaller head. :D
They have a warranty of one year I believe, and you can't help the size of your head, so I would make a warranty claim. Not sure how it could have broken.

I'm amazed at how easy these are to drive. Take less volume than my IEMs on my opus 1. Very pleased with them.

That depends on the IEMs. My U12, Solar, and Encore all require a good ten steps down on the volume wheel, compared to the 99C.

They are easy to drive, aka drivable from a smartphone.

Even so, I would say that a good source really makes 99C shine and they really scale well with source. Listening from my FiiO X5ii is considerably better than from my Xiaomi mi max.

I am still amazed at the texture 99C is able to provide, EQed or not. The textures are really good for any price range, but at their price point, the textures 99C is able to do, they are a steal!

Very pleased today, took delivery of a NuForce HA-200 headphone amp..  lots of Class A loveliness, what a great sound with the 99Cs!!  Nice and punchy, lots of control, all the detail, lovely.

I'm feeding it with a little Udac3, and it's surprisingly good, though it's clearly the weak point in the chain.  Next stop will be a proper desktop DAC - I'm liking the look of the audiolab M-DAC plus, have seen a used one at a decent price, just need to save the pennies.  The other obvious route would be a NuForce Dac-80 to go with the amp, but the M-Dac wins because it has proper balanced outputs and I could therefore grab another HA-200 and go the monoblocks route..  hmmm  decisions decisions and it's so easy to get carried away!  Still haven't parted with the Sennheisers yet!

All in all though, this is turning into a lovely little system to have on my desk at work!

Congratulations! The HA-200 is indeed an excellent amp that there's too little talk about. Fwiw I've got two of them and run them balanced and I'm very happy with their performance. If you're able to pick up one more without breaking the bank I'd definitely recommend it. Unfortunately I don't have any balanced cable for the Meze 99 yet but hopefully I'll get one eventually.

Just got my Classic 99.

First half hour, they sounded awful. After 2 hours, i get a hint on what's causing the buzz around these. The timbres seem on their way to sound very very good. Natural. That said, the bass is way exagerated right now. As many reported, they are easilly driven by an ipod, even managing to sound refined doing so. They remind me of my Sony mdr-7506, but i expect them to be more natural and refined in the end. The 7506 is a very good heaset in my opnion, and not much can touch it around 120usd.

The earpads are just wide enough to fit my medium sized ears. The cable are very thin but of nice quality and solid. The headband spring is still stiff and is causing some noise when i move but it should calm down after a while.

I read in a french review that the driver is fed through a discrete notch filter to compensate for a typical human ear response, which explain why the burn in period makes such a difference and why it is so long The reviewer said they need over 100 hours to reach their full potentiel. Looking forward to this. Many not so good reviews come from people who did not hear them after proper break-in, again according to the french reviewer.

@MezeTeam
Do the 99's have any sort of limited run or will they be continually made for the foreseable future?

I will be buying some in autumn after my fiio x5iii purchase in the next month or two..
I settled on these headphones after looking into about 10-15 other pairs so i dont want to get to autumn time and find that they are discontinued then. I may shed a tear if they are..

 Hey @griff06

The 99 Classics will not be discontinued anytime soon. For us, it is a cornerstone and we appreciate it more than just a pair of headphones.

By the way, had a meeting last weekend in Bucharest with @Dobrescu George and showed him the (almost) final version of the Meze 99 Neo.

Among others, we discussed the importance of tweaking with the equalizer of your DAP to get that live feeling of your music, tested the difference between the 99 Neo and 99 Classics, and had a nice warm cup of coffee and tea to help us keep focused.

George, feel free to let the forums know about your impressions. Hope to meet up with you again soon!
