I use my 99 Classics with a simple old LG V10 Quad Dac. I plug the cable into the LG before plugging it into the 99 Classics, this triggers the Axillary mode of the Quad Dac with a good margin of power. LG's V10 is described as fairly neutral to slightly bright. I hear it a lot cleaner, clearer and punchier than on a Samsung S8. And over time the pads wear out and break a bit and I have no problem with the bass.

I use an Astellnkern AK70 with my Meze 99 Neo's. Amazing pairing in my opinion. 'Sparkly neutral' is how I'd describe it. Bass is still there.

Not really. The SR2 isn't as warm or dark. The Kennerton Magni is a closer upgrade to the 99s, though the mids aren't quite as forward.

Been doing a bit more listening lately and with the Yaxi pads I do notice that vocals seem a bit too far back for my liking. Gonna do some more rolling with the pads I have like going back to the Shure...also Brainwavz Perforated pads look interesting and on sale right now for $16

All this pad swapping with larger pads. I'm not so sure I'd want to use deeper pads that move my ears further away from the drivers. Seems you'd lose that mid magic, and get a looser, more bloated mid bass.

In fact, comfort improves a lot, mid bass decreases a little and because that mid and treble gain more life,also soundstage improves. Anyway, the pads are very cheap ... it is worth testing. If you don't like it, you don't miss anything. Just place the originals again.

Holy crap! Meze increased all of the silver plated cables by €30! So glad I grabbed it an half hour ago for €119.
