Meze 99 Classics Discussion + Impressions Thread

@PinkyPowers Please do help me with an open back suggestion that wont render me homeless.

I've always wanted to heard the AKG 701 or 7XX. I probably will buy one eventually. But my recently acquired HD800 sort of fills that role. But I bet the AKG is killer in its own right.

The HD650 is much warmer than Meze. I love it, but it may not please you if you're after the same sort of signature. If you're okay with something different, then it's a great option. You should get a good amp for it, though.

Thank you for the suggestions. I know how you feel about the BL but i reckon that would be a decent amp for these HPs?

lol. I don't really have a problem with the Black Label. I think it's great. I know I came down a little hard on it for the treble, but I don't think that's a very big deal. It's an excellent DAC&Amp. I nearly picked up someone's first-gen Micro iDSD a few days ago, just so I'd have a quality portable unit for travel.

A reviewer on amazon said it took him 20 minutes per pad to put a Brainwavz set on his headphones. You get one bit on and another bit pops off and you have to be careful not to tear them. I will NEVER take them off my Fostex to try them on anything else.

Can confirm...it took me 20 minutes to place Brainwavz on some Audio Technica ath-m50x. As for my AKG K271s, it took half that time.

Which Brainwavz pad do you have on the m50x? How did it effect the SQ?

It was the Hm5. To be honest, before I got these pads, I thought the m50x's sucked. I didnt understand the hype when the sound, to me, wasn't nuanced at all. The highs pierced my ears and the bass was more boomy than I expected (even though the bass was clear and not distorted). But when I added the HM5 pads, it brought my ears away from the cups, and made the sound smoother and less harsh, as I originally imagined these cans where supposed to be like. On my K271, the Hm5s make them sound otherworldly....it improves them big time. It has basically replaced my Shure 440s as my goto cans...those pads help the sound to really really sound awesome with my Pioneer 100r and Teac amp. The thing about the Hm5s is that they help in providing your cans better isolation/seal from outside noise, (as I mentioned earlier) they take your ears from the cups more and allow your music to flow together evenly. I am going to buy a pair for my Shures and see if the magic works with them too.

They sound pretty good. Different, but still very good. I'd give them a shot.

I don't recommend this Meze's directly from an iPhone. I tried a little and makes all the downsides of this headphones (loose bass and recessed highs) even more prominent.

I found the 99 Classics to achieve his best with a neutral and flat output, not a warm one.

Any other thinks that way?

By my search cayin i5 should be good even great, but i jist afraid to buy as stream everything on Tidal, also waiting for fiio x7 mark2 review how it sounds with meze99 if not so good, just will try cayin i5, some report there is no problem to stream Tidal, so if somebody can make comparison fiiox7 II vs cayin i5 soundwise would be thankfull, i can get both but with out listening also fiio 7second stream Tidal? By signature i prefer not aggresive signature more war. My heart says go to cayin i5 but if it is buggy mind says go to fiio x7ii

Hello Meze fans!

Long time no hear! As you probably know, we're been hard at work lately but all with fruitful results! During the course of the weekend, we'll release some news regarding what we've been working on.

The first announcement is about the Meze Audio balanced cables for the Meze 99 Classics and Meze 99 Neo. You've surely seen it coming and saw them on our website. Here are some photos of them.

The cables can only be purchased directly from Meze Audio for now and they are in low supply. Our question is, would you be interested in testing them out in a tour? Just let us know!
