Hmm, the first meridian cosmetic redesign in 10+ years. It was time for some fresh looking goods, even though the old players still look classy IMO.

As for Tim's comment on Krell digital, Krell is not for everyone, and in fact I don't feel their equipment is worth the price. Their stuff just doesnt make music to my ears.

To each his own, but even the old 506 that I used to own was a
liquid and involving sounding CD player.

Compared to other players in the same class, I think the Meridian series prices are not outrageous.

I've heard Meridan is a good line, but I don't like their styling at all. It always reminds of the those converter converter boxes that you get when you subscribe to cable. What's the name of that company, Scientic Atlanta? I look at the price tag and then the unit and I think, "For a converter box"?

But I will say it's an appropo look for AV equipment -- as long as your friends don't think it's under deposit with the cable company.

On a side note: My favourite audio quote lately is from John Bau, who designed the Spica speakers. He said he got out of the business because "I lost interest once audio became a video accessory."

A most sobering thought, I think.

i'd rather have a piece of equipment made out of concrete blocks before i'd ever own one of those things. ick.

I've always liked to glossy black look of Meridian gear. Don't know why. Those "lower-priced" pieces look great too.
