Angela is a metal beast, Amott brothers shred like guitar gods
In case you are wondering those are natural vocal techniques and not electronic manipulations, amazing!

eh, for me personally, that takes it a bit too far for my tastes. kinda approaching job for a cowboy cannibla corpse level. not too into it.

Atreyu (old stuff - latest CD is trash... but their older CDs are pure fried gold), Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, Alexisonfire, Caliban, Bleeding Through, Heaven Shall Burn, Dry Kill Logic, Shadows Fall, Soil, Trivium, All That Remains, Static X, Underoath, Still Remains, Norma Jean, The Devil Wears Prada, Avenged Sevenfold, The Black Dahlia Murder, Poison The Well, It Dies Today, As I Lay Dying, Haste The Day, The Chariot, Between The Buried And Me, Death By Stereo, Destroy The Runner, The Bled, Death Before Dishonor

All are excellent. Gotta love the explosive energy and emotion in this genre. =D

Some of these may appeal.

Opeth (like Pink Floyd meets Morbid Angel, sorta. My favorite band.EVERYTHING they do is good, but may as well start with Ghost Reveries.)

The Haunted (former At the Gates members. Great Gothenberg sound.Try The Haunted Made Me Do It)

Hammers of Misfortune (power black metal opera? But really good. Try The person)

Gojira (enviro-friendly DM. Great grooves. Try From Mars to Sirius.)

Decapitated (virtuosic heavy DM. Try Organic Hallucigenosis)

Nile (Egyptian DM. Go for Ithyphallic)

Enslaved (proggressive black metal - Floyd meets Emperor. Get Isa.)

Anata (technical DM. Try The Conductor's Departure)

Arsis (good tech melo death. Try A Celebration of Guilt.)

Behemoth (blackened DM. Very heavy. Try Demigod.)

Carcass (Mike Amott guitar from Arch Enemy! Started as grind but became melodeath. Try Heartwork. AWESOME!)

Daylight Dies (doomy death. Try Dismantling Devotion)

Meshuggah (math metal. Try Destroy Erase Improve)

Necrophagist (crazy tech death guitar wizardry.Try Epitaph.)

Nevermore (more in the power metal vein, but great guitar. Try This Godless Endeavor)

Strapping Young Lad (some kind of dm, but just what? I dunno. Try Alien)

Enjoy!

Yeah, Doomsday and one other are ok... but they're nothing compared to Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses. They've lost their rage.

Lots of great bands mentioned here. Luckily I've still got a couple to add:

Mastodon - Remission, Leviathan, and Blood Mountain are all really good.

Norther - Kinda similar to Children of Bodom.

DevilDriver - The lead singer used to sing for Coal Chamber.

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Hard to describe. Really technical guitars and drumbeats.

These guys were already mentioned, but I had to plug 'em again:

Trivium - Try Ascendancy first. The Crusade sounds eerily like old Metallica.

Soilwork
Opeth
Children of Bodom
Killswitch Engage
All That Remains
The Black Dahlia Murder
Meshuggah

Long live metal! \m/

Not exactly melodic, but GORGUTS is a great underrated Death Metal band. Every album is fantastic. They started off as excellent primitive DM and evolved into a sort of avant-garde style with Obscura and later.
