I'm not sure if you'll agree with my assessment, it's a bit of a stretch, but the Alter Ego was the closest sound to open back headphones. It didn't feel like inserting IEMs, where insertion feels like earplugs, a vacuum sealed isolation of sorts. Less detail in the upper midrange/ultra highs, but the naturalness of that analog texture, tube-like sound, was just out of this world to me. I preferred the balanced tuning instead of the bass boost.Ice Lab Spectrumica & UM Mest Jet black. I have not listened to the Alter Ego in a noisy environment.
Leakage = YES it does. My wife 20ft away heard them & they were not really loud.
I did not take noise isolation or leakage into the decision to purchase. I will mostly use them alone at home.
It was evident to me, when A/Bing that the Alter Ego was another step up the ladder in SQ. I was dead set on getting a TOTL IEM with bone conduction. I was & still am surprised I picked a unit without.
Tips are extremely important, more so with the Alter Ego than any other IEM/TWS I've used.
Yes, I live in NYC, and they're not ideal for commuting, but since a lot of people disrespectfully turn up the volume all the way on their phones WITHOUT EARBUDS I could care less if they heard my Alter Ego IEMs, at least they acknowledge they're on my ears and not for all to listen against their will.

Was wondering if you had auditioned the Alpha Omega Omega and the Fei Wan. Those were great sets to me, but they're less of an all-rounder compared to the Alter Ego as I found the treble on those two sets and most other sets (hiss/sibilance) just a tad fatiguing on some tracks, especially with vocalists such as Avril Lavigne, Sting, and Chester Bennington. After looking at graphs for the Alter Ego, I've realized I'm not sensitive to 8k peaks, I'm sensitive to the 5k-6k region, which the Alter Ego is one of the few to have a dip in that region.
Anything you don't like about it? I heard the stiff cable at that price point is average at best. I was wondering if you could do a full-on review for the rest of us.
Oh, and which tips do you recommend for this set?
Thank you, fellow head-fier!
