Meet The FiiO M7: An Exynos 7270-Powered HiFi Music Player
Nov 7, 2018 at 5:33 AM Post #541 of 792
I've had one of these since June and it's been the bane of my life. It was rushed out and almost 5 months later it's STILL crap.

What do I do with it ?
I go to the gym and I want to listen to a 4 hour DJ mix over the course of a couple of days.
So - I turn the player on and I start listening. I finish my workout after say 90 minutes.
At this point I figure, I let the thing go into standby mode so I can continue my place in the music tomorrow.
I come back tomorrow and I press the on button, it comes on - no bluetooth. For whatever reason, letting it sit over night causes the bluetooth to die in some way.
So I have to wait 5 minutes whilst the thing reboots.
Then I have to try and scroll my way back into the music - its juddery, the scrolling leaps in 10 minute bundles. The player then crashes.
Repeat x 5 until you eventually get somewhere near where you were before.
Then notice that because bluetooth has been on all night youve lost half your battery.
Finish work out, figure ok I will have to actually turn the player off then. Power it off.
Following day - wait 5 minutes for the thing to start up - does it remember where in the mix I was yesterday? No.

Spend literally months sending files to FiiO with clear instructions on how to repeat what Im doing - they eventually give up and stop responding to your emails until the latest firmware is out and then they tell you to try that.
Obviously that doesnt work because theyve not actually been recreating the problems youve been having.

Honestly, is listening to a long mp3 and then returning to it the following day really asking too much of an mp3 player in 2018 ?

I'd bin it and buy an M9 but from the reviews I can see it's got the same processor AND same software on it, so much so that the M9 identifies itself as an M7.

What an utterly winning brand!

I found the following at http://fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=42108

Edited by FiiO-Shadow at 2018-10-11 18:21

Q: Regarding ISOs/files in compressed DSD(DST) format on the X3II/X5II/X5III/X7/X7MKII/M3K/M7/M9

A: we have received some feedback on our X3II/X5II/X5III/X7/X7MKII/M3K/M7/M9 DAP stating that the SACD ISO support is not working as advertised. We would like to take this opportunity to offer our explanation.
Simply put, the X3II/X5II/X5III/X7/X7MKII/M3K/M7/M9may natively decode DSD files and DSD ISOs but not those that are compressed in the DST format.

When I read this I bought the M7.

Do any Fiio DAPs support .ISO files?

Cheers

Tony
Dear friend,

Sorry I made a mistake. The M7 can support .iso since FW1.0.3.
You could check the firmware version of your M7 from settings-general-about device -build number.
M7 FW1.0.4:click here
How to upgrade the M7:
a) Dwonload the firmware file from FiiO website then copy the firmware package file to the micro SD card;
b) Open "Technical Support" app on the M7, click "Firmware Update", and select the firmware package file to upgrade.

You could update the firmware and check again.

Best regards

Dear friend,

Would you mind PM us your email address? The Bluetooth would turn off after one night? Did you turn on the sleep settings from general?
You mentioned that the M7 fails to remember the position, did you turn on the resume mode as well?
Are you using the latest firmware now? You could consider a factory restore as well.
Sorry for bringing inconvenience to you.

Best regards

Thanks for the update, however i had already updated the firmware.
so i downloaded the file you linked, updated the firmware again, but when i check the build it say 1.0.2.
I didn't see any errors during the FW update, but its not updating?

Quite frustrating

Just so you know, last time I contacted FiiO with problems with my player (still ongoing) they told me I hadnt done the upgrade because it showed 1.0.2 even though I KNOW I'd updated it to 1.0.3 and the music player build indicated the upgrade had worked too - but my version showed as 1.0.2
Basically their firmware upgrade is flakey.

Dear friend,

Would you mind trying another sd cards for check? The firmware file you downloaded is 410MB?

Thanks for the idea.
I used a different SD card and then it correctly updated the firmware to 1.04.

All working now

Cheers

The player (with 1.0.4) seems to have a serious issue with some MP3 VBR files; it assumes the track is longer than it really is, this results to several minutes of silence in the end of the track, until the player moves to the next track.

Dear friend,

We have reported to the engineers about that. Will try to solve it in next firmware update.
Sorry for bringing inconvenience to you.

Do we have a general consensus with this player? Looking for a stand alone DAP again and man...this one DOES look pretty sweet. Sabre 9018 DAC, volume wheel, USB DAC, Bluetooth, etc...for the price it seems impossible to beat.

What are your thoughts on it so far?

Pretty solid, have seen very few complaints through and through. Most complaints were about the software crasing sometimes IIRC, but I didn't encounter it thus far. As for its sound, hard to beat for the price, and if you're using Bluetooth, it is fairly nice.
