I have not but do have the HD600, and will go for a MHP1000 test drive this weekend or next. i have the HD600 and MHA100 and the combination is excellent. There is nothing left wanting in my opinion. However I need a closed HP so looking at MHP. Just wish it were a bit less expensive.

Good luck with the audition. Please let us know your thoughts.

Finally had a chance to sample MHP1000 together with MHA100. What can I say- it was beautiful. Don't know how much of that was placebo effect from blue meters on amp but DSOTM sounded really, really nice. Sound reminded of my beloved D2000s being supercharged.

Value though probably wasn't there, even considering the fact that we are talking Mcintosh here. These easily are $1K cans to my ears, but not 2K. Amp is even more so: I mean it's a great piece of kit but at 4.5K?! You can find mint MC402 for that money.

Did I mention that it was beautiful experience?

It would take me all of 5 seconds to hit 'Pay Now' on a tube-based dac-less version of the MHA100 that fits the footprint (and can be stacked on top) of the D100 for the same price with a modest desktop speaker amp (solid state with independent volume where I can have both or either of headphone and speakers playing or muted) and without any of those DSP effects or even the fancy digital display etc.  I mean they could really cut the chaff to focus on just the quality of the amp itself.  It could even cost a little more and it would probably not slow the transaction down at all. It could even be a fixed gain optimized for the MHP1000 and so the only controls are Power, Volume knob with collar for speaker volume, and speaker/headphone mute switches (or even full volume down or push the volume knob to mute).

McIntosh did consider making the MHA100 a tube amp as opposed to solid state. They went with SS due to a lower noise floor. In their opinion, headphones, especially ear buds, are extremely sensitive and will accentuate the slightest electrical background noise. I would agree with this opinion and the logic for SS.

Sometimes, getting the beautiful experience makes the extra cost justifiable. Just one of many symptoms of audiophilia nervosa! :)

I just tried a DHC Complement 4 on them last night and oh boy! They sounded amazing!

Man, this hp is the real deal.  So much detail and excellent imaging.  Sound signature is on-par with HD800.  I took a peak inside.  It's not a rebranded Beyer.  I'm gonna use it all week to break it in.

I wish it came with an dual mono XLR cable and 4-pin XLR as well.

Guys, check out this album on the MHP.  Sounds amazing.

Mike,
That comment (in red) validates what I have been calling them since I got them (One of the first here.. if not the first). I call them the HD800 closed version. To me they have the biggest soundstage presentation I have heard in a closed headphones.

Very interesting...that's what I've been calling the AKT5p's (also made by beyer). Wonder how they both compare?

I have listened to the AKT5p couple of times at meets and shows. I liked them and think they are better than any Beyer I have owned or listened inducing the T1 but I also think the MHP1000 are more open, detailed and with bigger soundstage.

I like them with the stock cable but I think they sound better with the Zeus OCC Copper and even better with the Complement 4.

Cool...thanks man for the feedback. if the MHP1000s are even more open than the AKT5ps, that's pretty impressive for a closed headphone!

I opened up the MHP-1000 this evening (don't tell McIntosh).  It is NOT a Beyer I've seen or owned if it's a rebranded Beyer.  I'll post pics in my full review.
