The 4 horsemen of EL50/4654. Mullard EL50, Philips Miniwatt 4654, Tesla 4654 and Philips Miniwatt Metal Base EL50/4654.

These are beautiful sounding tubes. I have 6 pairs because there are 2 pairs of Tesla 4654. :relaxed: I regard the Tungsram OS1 PE06/40N and 40P as similar. Their sound are not that dissimilar.

In fact I just inserted Tungsram OS1 PE06/40P into my Universe with the following settings:-

240v selected - 177v measured
Bias(2) - 53mV
177 x 0.053 = 9.381 watts

PE06/40P pa is 25 watts !

There is still a pair available but I wouldn't know if this Philips pair sound the same as my Tungsram OS1.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/204658273356

My pair is Tungsram OS1 PE06/40P and with Telefunken c3gs, is a beautiful sounding combination. A top 10 or top 20 for sure. :relaxed:

Last day with the black Universe before I return it tomorrow. Listening with 5a/152m and Tesla 4654, both Universe sound amazing ! In a moment of madness I almost sold off Odyssey. :) Fortunately I came to my senses. After this black Universe is gone, Odyssey will be back on the rack next to Universe. I can't think of any other better sounding tube amps.

A pair of RCA 807’s NOS 1967 after a couple of hours sounding beautiful and ZERO hum, and not forgetting Deans excellent adapters.

Eric gave me the go-ahead on using EL36 in my Super Ultimate-H (he really wanted to stress that it is a -H and not -h) so I asked Deyan to make me some adapters. While I wait for those, does anyone have any recommendations for ones to try? The Russian ones seem cheap enough to try blind, and I think the Philips and Amperex ones should be good too. Any other brands that come to mind or differences between them?

The Russian 6P13S advertised as 'EL36' equivalent (which are not - they bias differently but if the EL36 are safe for your amp, these would be too) do not have the same pinout as the European variants, so if you are getting adapters made you will want to make sure which pinout you get them made for.

Nice catch, thanks for the heads-up! I'll hold off then on the 6P13S and just go for EL36 for now.

Hello,
@Farrellc
do the EL36 only work in your amplifier or also in our previous Ultimate versions?
Your selection looks very good, also tell us the adapter you have made at Deyan so we can add it to the tube list.

From my point of view, there is currently a lot to do, but also some stress involved.
I've got a lot going on at the moment and I'm only using the weekend to listen to some music with Ultimate, so the Burn in is running very slowly as far as the resistors on the output socket are concerned.
In the end, I can almost forget about it as far as the topic is concerned.
Because I know it will stay in.
But then it grounds me again for the coming week when I listen to Ultimate after such turbulent weeks.

Last week I wanted to listen to OG with the Auteur but it didn't happen.
I'm making up for that now.
To my ears, it also shines at the highest level, certainly no Atrium or Verite, but everything you need to enjoy music with these headphones is there.
The tube combination is unchanged I left everything as last week 6550 RCA on 240v,6SL7 RCA,Ez81 Sylvania and Vcap.
It sounds nice and sometimes it's a real shame that I don't listen to it enough.
Although it doesn't have the most punchy bass, it is incisive enough.
The timbre is really wow and smooth with very good decay.
The vocals are typically forward and full of emotion.
Never sharp in the highs, which I used to know differently from Auteur OG.
Also that the bass range was sometimes a little weak.
This is definitely not the case.
Overall, I like the staging of these headphones and the authentic way they convey the music and how they can go deep.
Which the other Zmf's also do but not like the Auteur OG.
Always a good pair of reset headphones for me when I've had enough of other headphones.
It's the one that always grounds me.
No other headphones have ever done that for me.
It also has this kind of forward attack that I always find very good and astonishing.
That's why I could never give them away, not because they no longer exist in this form, but because they always bring this joy back to music.

One last thing that is a little outside the box.
We've been a bit busier looking for a flat over the last few weeks.
Because our landlord cancelled our flat some time ago due to personal use.
We have now found something where only 2-3 formalities are still missing.
Then it will soon start with organisational things, planning ect...so that everything is ready for 1 July.
That's why it will be a bit quieter around me in the next few months.
But rest assured that I will always be reading and will reply if there is time, even if it is late.
The new flat will be fantastic, even if it costs a bit more.
We have also found great landlords, I will have my own listening room, my wife will have her hobby room for all her 3D printers and generally more space for the general living area.

Stay healthy until then, enjoy ULTIMATE and I look forward to reading every post from you.✌️

Thanks @Zachik! Curious why you left the current draw section on your spreadsheet blank for 6X4. Data sheet indicates 0.6A. Is that in dispute?
Sorry - been WAY behind, and now trying to catch up........
No reason for the missing blanks in the table. I just never got to add current draw for every tube - I will try to add that shortly!

I just spoke to Eric since he didn't mention it before. He would like me to run the EL36 at high bias and 200V. If the current doesn't exceed 70 mA on high bias, then UltimatE and UltimatE-h owners can also use them. It'll be a couple of weeks until I get the adapters, but I'll make sure to report back and let everyone know. The adapters I'm having made by Deyan are EL36 to 6L6/EL34.

@Farrellc
Great news and good to hear.Look forward to hearing from you when the time comes.

@LoryWiv is right, without this list Ultimate would be a bit lost with all the great tube options we can use it would be half the fun.
With the list there is something for everyone which makes it so incredibly flexible, more experimental.
Great work and thanks @Zachik.
