Massdrop x Eddie Current ZDT Jr. impressions thread

Mine arrived with both of those issues. Fortunately, the shorter foot is on the right side, so the amp doesn't rock when I hold it down to connect and disconnect cables. I got a $15 refund from Drop for the volume knob. I spent $3.39 of it on an aluminum knob from AliExpress (search for 32753503255) that feels and looks much better.

For sure. Thanks for the link to the volume knob, ordered. I'll just throw some sticky tape on the foot that is shorter to even it out with the rest.

Will share impressions as soon as I get some cans in I can use on it. :)

I am really surprised no one has tried or mentioned the Mullards! This would be the first tube I would try.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/323857832585

Anyone who has this amp should buy these tubes STAT.

Stock tubes had some harshness in treble.
Western Electrics had less.
Mullards have none.

@Wes S called Mullards “smooth yet incredibly detailed.” That about sums up my thoughts. If you have this amp and haven’t heard it with tubes of this caliber, you don’t know how high it can scale.

I absolutely love it, when you find those tubes, that literally sound magical and take things to another level. This is why we get addicted to tube rolling! My name is Wes and I am a tube rolling addict. :o2smile:

Ha! Well I think I’m upgrading the back tubes also per another thread on ZDTj from a site we can’t mention. Yes, it’s addicting!

I ordered Mullard 5654/6AK5W/6096, and I've seen Raytheon JRP-5654 recommended also, so does anyone know if it would be redundant to get both?

I received my ZDT Jr today. Time to test it out with my ZMF Auteurs. Looking for tube suggestions in addition to stock. I have the Mullard 5654/6AK5W/6096 on my list already.

Where to find these tubes? Do you have any reliable seller?

Turning on the Tube Rollers Bat Signal. @Wes S — care to chime in?

The site we can’t mention uses GE Jan 5654 but Wes was less than enthusiast about those, and I trust his knowledge the most. You can get them on Amazon.

I have Western Electrics also but Mullards are my endgame.
