I initially thought that's what the question was, but on scanning through the whole thread again, I don't actually see where that question is asked.

I'm afraid to get my iPod out of the drawer to check it. It probably doesn't say where it's made anyway, and if not, I'll take that to automatically mean China. Anyway, it seems to sync well with my Irish Power Mac

You're right, the question wasn't asked, I think ken5 was raising a Point...

Aw, go check your iPod! Should be on the box, if not the player!

My iRivers are made in Korea (I think), not that that's pertinent to the thread...

Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China.

That's just how the text is engraved, too

I wouldn't care all that much as long as QC is maintained. Although personally I would pay a bit more for a product that's made in the home country of the company (ie. if the company is German, then Germany, if it's Chinese, then China, etc.). That's just a preference I developed over time -- this is provided that the quality is at least the same as it being manufactured elsewhere.

Heh! Just like some mtb's then - the 'design' tag is huge, the 'made' tag is, er, somewhere.......lol.

(mine's handbuilt in the USA -so I'm very smug)

So did it burst into a ball of flame in your pants pocket and incinerated its adjacent organ yet? Or did it contain lead paint that would eat your brain?

My Sony NWZ-A816 is proudly emblazoned with "Made in China" and am loving it.

Sorry to disappoint you, but all iriver DAPs were/are produced in China, since the beginning of the company...

Meh....before China, it was Tiawan and before that it was Japan. I think it's funny that my grandmother says she remembers when Japan was just starting up manufacturing of products and was considered the "cheap" or "inferior" product. But now she's weary of buying anything made in China! I realize that since China is the base of most manufacturing now, you're going to have some products that don't have as much QC: yet other products with plenty of QC. It really boils down to brand reliability. I have a pair of Sennheisers made in China that are just as good as the ones made in Ireland or other older phones I've had made in Japan. I have two laptops by HP and Toshiba both made in China, and they're good. I have a prosumer camera that's made in Japan that I really like.....but the cheap P&S camera I have is made in China and it hasn't let me down either. I'm sure there's lemons made in China just as there are ones made in Japan and the US. I tend to look at brand reliability over where the product was manufactured.

And all those who do not care where it's made: you also don't care if the people who build your headphone and or mp3-player get paid almost nothing and have to fight to survive, or if it's produced by a couple of kids...???

Just want to know your opinion

Yeah, I checked my players last night...as I said earlier, politically, I'd prefer they weren't, but....they are. While I don't see the need to beat myself up, I kinda agree with Sun Devil. I don't think it's BS to be cognisant of where a majority (?) of our Western goodies come from, or the true price it takes to make em (tho I'm thinking more about clothing & sweat shops here).

No, I don't really care whether any of those people get paid almost nothing and have to fight to survive, or if it's produced by a couple of kids. Seriously, I don't.

I know it is more politically "correct" to show sympathy for people that are less fortunate, but people from the first world often thought they are fighting for a good cause (when they idealize how people should live) but they are not always doing the right thing. I live in the the third world, and unless you live here with me, you have no idea how my world works thus shouldn't pass your idea of life over mine, or any one around me.

The thing is, in this little home town of mine, there are still families that can't afford clean water and electricity, and there are those who are rich enough to get wasted 24/7 and don't get a d*mn about any thing.

I know form friend that many places in Indonesia, people earn less than USD$10 a week, yet they survive. If someone willing to pay those people USD$11/week to work (which is still close to nothing), would you still say it is a totally bad deal? They are just doing the best they can to survive, and even improve on what they already have. There are a lot of Indonesian in my country now doing extremely hard labor, and getting paid for much less than local workers, but when these people went back to Indonesia, their little saving here will make them among the richest people in their home town. Even in this little home town of mine, kid labor is still quite common. Many families here need their kid to works on their early age so the family can get enough food to the table, while people from the West want their kids to moan the lawn for toy's money.

Should life be fair? it should. Would life be fair? It won't.
