Because you need to spend at least another $200 on an amp to drive them to decent performance.  They also sound terrible with electronic music.

Yup they need a pretty powerful amp as far as dynamic headphones go, they will sound pretty bad with the e17 (my Q701s sounded awful when i tried em with an e7)

Currently I own akg k272s and hd600s. I'm also in the market for new closed back cans, the dt770s were at the top of my list for a while but I dont like the way most describe the sound sig (extremely bassy)

So what are you looking at instead?
I've never been a style whore but the momentums are pretty. But like I said,I'm concerned about cup size, and the sound seems to be, from the reviews, really good at a lot of things without excelling anywhere.
Dt770s are looking very good, as are the akg's for around $100 less.

Well, after a lot, and I mean, a lot of reading, I decided to go with the Beyerdynamics DT770 LE 32ohm and Fiio E17 amp/dac
 
I feel this is a good starting point for me, I'll update with a review
