I've had my ATH M50 for a little over a month. These are my first full size headphones. I'm pretty happy with them for now. One thing I've noticed over the past few days is that I perceive less bass than the first few weeks.
Tonight, being fed up with sweaty ears I decided to do the sock mod. I had played with this a few weeks ago but the sock I cut were a little long and I was securing the socks with different types of material (section of cat 5 cable, long zip tie) to tuck in the material. This changed the sound charecteristics I felt and didn't like it so I set it aside. Playing with it again tonight I cut the sock a little short so it didn't tuck in under the padding. This seems to squeeze the padding in from the tension of the sock and make the pads a little stiffer and maybe a little taller. Well the bass seems MUCH better now. So would the pads flattening out create less bass? Does any of that make sense?
