Hi, I need something that can act as a decent DAC (for PC speaker and headphone) and also works well with another DAC, so which one of these you think is the best choice?

Edit: after some reading and peopel's advise I changed the topic, now the question is E-MU 1820 worth the $300 over the Revo? Also do I need the E-MU Sync daughter card?

Well if you can extend your budget, emu 1212m is far better than any of those. If not, I'd choose the AP 2496.

Thanks for the reply just take a look at 1212m, it's seems it lacks the 1/8" Speaker output, so does AP2496, but the 1820 and 1820m looks very nice, although they do cost quit a bit more, do you think it will worth it to get them over the revo? which means $300-400 more, also is the only difference bewteen 1820 and 1820m are the E-MU Sync daughter card?

The Audiophile USB does not have speaker outputs, so it's not an option.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to find an adapter (or even have it custom made for you,or your cables reterminated) then to spend $300-400 more on 1820?AFAR 1820 and 1820m have different DACs and m version sounds better (1212m and 1820m have the same ones and sound the same).

Adapter seems to be a good idea.

On their website all three has the same PCI card, it's kind of hard to believe 1212m sounds better than 1820 and cost $200 less, (edit: it seems to be ture... what th hell? why make a $200 card sounds better than a $400 one...)

Also how big is the difference bewteen Revo and These emu cards?

BTW Where can I gett the Adpter for 1/8" speaker output I get 1212m?

I agree with getting an adaptor.

The 1212m has better convertor than 1820 so it potentially has better quality. I say potentially because the 1820's external so it's different.

Large.

Probably from Radio Shack.

BTW Guitar Center will let the E-MU 1212m go for $165, and it's WAY better then the Audiophile.

Thanks for the replys!!

lan, I read your 1820m impression, you think the extra features in 1820m will be useful? And does 1820m sounds any better than 1212m or say "potentially has better quality"? Thanks.

BTW I decided to get rid of my Creative 6600, won't fit in my room and doesn't sound good. So now I am looking for a nice 2.1 speaker for my PC, any recommendations?

They're really really bright and I find the midrange sorely lacking. Personally, I would ebay for some event tr-5 for ~$200. The retail for both speakers are the same. The event tr-5 have a much lusher midrange, great clarity, and the bass is tolerably good for a 5.25". Can't say the same for the m-audio's bass. I could live with the bass of the events for a few months before adding a subwoofer. If you need an inexpensive one right away, I would go for the Dayton 10" subwoofer for $125. This is quality sound on the cheap!

Hi, you know I am a big newbie, so if I bought a pair of tr-5 and 1212m, how do I connect them? Also if I buy a subwoofer say the Dayton 10" subwoofer, how do add that to my set up? Can I just connect them to 1212m? Or I need some sort of receiver? IF I do what kind of receiver?
