on amazon there is 2 sets of M-audio av40's 1 being 15 watt per channel and the other (being more $$) 20 watt per channel and it also has the bass booster on the back (the 15 watt cheaper version has no bass boost) will 5 watts make much difference or is it worth saving for the more expensive model?

The set without the bass boost is probably the AV30. I have never heard the AV30s, but I would save and get the AV40s. And by looking on Amazon, I see they have the BX5As for less than the AV40s. I would skip the AV30 and the AV40 and get the BX5As. They are superior to the others by a great margin.

Well no they are listed as AV40's. The BX5A seems to have quality control issues from what i read not sure about them might save for the audiogene a2's not really looking for high bass monitors just something for rock, classic rock and synth pop music.

I owned the BX5As for over a year, and sold them to someone who has been using them for over a year. I know they had some QC problems, but the set I owned had no problems, and continues to have no problems whatsoever.

I wouldn't touch the AV series with a 10 foot pole, personally.  Had a couple friends I recommended them to, they had nothing but problems.  They are unfortunately rather cheaply made.

Heard the Edifier 1900TII and AV40s and thought the former seemingly comes from a lesser known/obscure brand i think it sounds fuller, warmer while AV40 seems to thin - another option is a T-amp and bookshelf speakers perhaps?

And the a2's sound muddy and boxy compared to both of them, for the same price you'd be better of with the edifiers or a t-amp and small bookshelf speakers.

Muddy as in low end, bass around 200-300hz dominates everything else and for $200 there not great, the creative t40 is a better option if you don't need don't need bass under 250hz and almost a $100 cheaper.
