Just tested it.  And no - not working in DAC mode, but does with the player - so may be a bug.

Couple more notes:

  1. Native DSD plays perfectly (DSD64)
  2. aac256 still tags OK but won't play
  3. 24/96 playing and tagging perfectly
  4. Still no gapless

Hope they can fix this soon. I have plenty of that files.

Hmmm....no balanced output in USB DAC mode may be a deal breaker for me.

Early days gents - the DAC should be able to be corrected on the software side - we know the DAC inside is capable of up to 24/192 PCM - so all we're talking about is the driver (not the DAP).  Those with a Mac or Linux probably have that access already (I'll check Linux later today).

As far as the balanced output goes - remember this is only when using the L3 as a DAC - so again until we hear if L&P can fix on the software side, I wouldn't be writing it off yet.

And for the price range (haven't heard yet what the RRP is of course) - if it is around $300 - it already gets my recommendation without question. There is a lot to like about it.

WHERE did you learn no balanced output in USB DAC mode?

On this unit (DAC mode only) - you get output from the SE but no output on balanced John.

Thanks John

I'm loving the L3 so far.  Did you try the DAC on your L5 Pro to see if it was doing 24/192?

Hi Paul,

I just confirmed with Mr.Wan, driver-less USB DAC on windows only supports up to 16/96. Maybe they will implement a driver for higher sample rate in the future.

As for the balanced output on USB DAC, it is enabled on L3. So... this get suspicious now?

I tried it before - and it wasn't working.  I'll try it again after my transfer completes (re-transferring 114 Gb of files on the L3's micro card - so it's tied up for a couple of hours).  I'll also try the DAC on Linux then too.

I think I might know what caused the problem, try to plug your IEM into balanced output before connecting through USB. L3 has headphone detection and will turn off unused signal channels to save power.

Hi John

That worked a treat.  DAC worked perfectly in Linux too - although I didn't try upsampling to see what the highest resolution was.

I can confirm that the balanced jack works when the L3 is used as a DAC under both Windows and Linux.

Perect, thanks for the followup. Now a driver for 24 bit and it's all good.
