Luxman P700u Headphone Amplifier Thread

If fed an unbalanced signal via RCA will this amp internally convert to balanced?
I connect my Headphone amplifiers to my two channel system and feed them from the preamplifier - so no balanced out available.

I'm waiting to demo the new HeadAmp GSX Mini at CanJam which will internally convert an unbalanced signal input to balanced.
My Mjolinir Stax amplifier does the same as does my current Moon 430HA.

I’m feeding it using XLR from a Totaldac Twelve which is single ended so ..... I just found my single ended cables this morning so I might swap them prob won’t matter anyways .

I also have a 900u preamp which would convert the Totaldac to bal , wonder if that might be the way to go

I run a Chord DAVE through a 900u to the 750p via balanced, so I can control volume from the remote. Sounds very good.

Ah
Thanks however that is not an acceptable solution when there are a number of amplifiers out there - my current Moon and Stax, upcoming Headamp GSX Mini, the new Nimbus - which can all internally convert to balanced.
A shame as the Luxman sounds like an interesting amplifier.

I was wrong I corrected it , sorry

I confirmed this with Luxman , but I’m curious how it’s done now ,
transformer , op amp or discrete . I will post when I get a reply

PS
How many people are really using DAC's with balanced outputs? I see so many here using things like Chord etc. all which do not have balanced out.

It also seems that, much like the GSX MK2, running this Luxman amp single ended is losing out on what it is truly capable of doing

I use
a totaldac twelve and it’s single ended. , it’s one of the top 3 DACS out there

So wait - I'm confused - does it internally convert an unbalanced signal fed from the RCA inputs to a balanced signal so headphones on the XLR jacks are fed a true balanced signal?

How are you checking with Luxman - are you located in Japan?

Thanks

Anyone have an answer to my post #106 above?
Thanks

Here is an excerpt from the review at highfidelity.pl:
The P-750u is a balanced design, from input to output. However, it is also possible to use combinations of balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs, which is possible because of use of a circuit that symmetries or de- symmetries signal. The idea is to amplify signal always in a symmetrical circuit, no matter what signal we deliver to it or expect at the output.”

Yes correct it internally converts unbalanced to balanced , but i’m trying to find out how they are doing this . I’m speaking with Luxman US

I will try that tonight , do you like the sound from the 750 better than your DAVE ?
YES, to my ears the 750u brings more texture and dynamics to the sound. I don’t believe in the dogma of keeping the signal path as short as possible, which is a very popular theory. My uneducated opinion is that what matters is how the signal is handled in the signal path, and I believe that Luxman does that extremely well in their Ultimate product line.
