As the title says, after having listened to wish what album would people recommend I listen to next? I have Disintergration and Pornography but I'm open to buying others

The Head on the Door is their pop masterpiece, IMHO. every song could be a single, but while they're unbelievably catchy, there's also that classic dark edge in every track.

definitely buy now.

Sounds like the type of light move I'd go for after the fantastic but dark, heavy, moody and difficult to digest (but ultimately rewarding) material on wish. Cheers, I'll check it out

Haha! I've learnt that since poting this thread LOL! I'm compiling my next shopping list, in term of CD's, but had a listen to 'Disintegration' and you're right, its another notch up in darkness from wish!

I'm guessing thats very much their signature as both 'Wish' and 'Disintegration' are also multilayered, textured and thick sounding. I think I'll go with 'The Head On the Door' next, for a change up. Note, I've listened to 'Disintergration' twice through now, so some hooks are beginning to form in another dense body of work from the Cure. I think a lighter album will be welcome at this stage!

I'd recommend Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, like Wish it has a dazzling myriad of styles but even more so as it's spread out through 18 tracks on a single CD (was a double album in it's day). The Head on the Door is The Cure at their most accessible pop (and in it's right a pop masterpiece), but IMHO Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is a stronger album as a whole, much more challenging, and thoroughly rewardable. To me it's the closest in style with Wish.

it's no secret around here that i lurve The Cure, congrats on discovering them! and with a vast catalogue like theirs, you'll discover many gems. have fun!

I agree, I loved the Cure growing up (Jr High age) and have recently gone back to them in my 30s. I picked up Head on the Door, Kiss Me..., Disintegration (again). They sound fresh some 15 years on. I have found the same to be with another band I used to like during this time, The Smiths.

can't let a comment like this go.

the 80s was actually a magical time for music... Husker Du, Minutemen, Replacements, R.E.M., Mission of Burma, Pere Ubu, Tom Waits, Lounge Lizards, Fishbone, Nick Cave/Birthday Party, Dead Kennedys, Talking Heads, Black Flag, Spacemen 3, The Church, The Alarm, Bad Brains, Kraftwerk, Talk Talk...

need I go on?

i second the kiss me, kiss me, kiss me notion. really you can't go wrong with any of the 80s cure or for that matter the 90s.
you are absolutely right vicajax. the 80s have a bad rap but really some monumental stuff came out during that era. i love all but two or three of the bands you listed. those bands i have yet to hear. the 80s were also a great time for budding hip hop such as public enemy, eric b, a tribe called quest, and boogie down productions.
