Thoughts?

I thought it was excellent! Very emotional and I am sad to see such a great show come to an end. What a ride!

I'll be honest, I was totally disappointed with the ending. Overall I thought the episode was pretty good, but the final ending was a cheap cop-out in a lot of ways. There were too many loose ends left unresolved with the alternate realities.

It took me over an hour last night after watching the show to get to sleep, because I was thinking about the end. It's probably to soon to get into spoiler territory here, but I actually think with a particular interpretation of the nature of the island (and the Lost universe), pretty much everything in the show is explained - actually more so than I expected. I won't deny it could be viewed as a cop-out, but considering it started as a tv show of originally unknown length, as well as a lot of story that was added/changed (and influenced by viewers, which is pretty awesome).... It's really a brilliant concept to reveal the way they did, and shows some top notch writing.

Some people won't be happy with the ending, for sure, and I can't say I'm completely happy, but I really respect the show and it's creators more now than I have for most of the show. I also feel like a bit of an idiot for not seeing more of this coming. :)

And I won't deny it, I teared up at the end.

As the show progressed, most of the things the writers did seemed to be just vehicles to get the point across since the show has always been one that's rooted heavily in its characters and themes: Good vs Evil, destiny and free will, love and loss, religious allegory... All of these were excellently executed, imo. The people who are complaining about the finale are the people who focused instead on the mysteries of the island, although one can't blame them tbh. There's a lot of ambiguity and the show leaves a lot for interpretation. I sort of like it that way.

I think it was great that Damon & Carlton wrote the finale more to tap into the emotional investment that the viewers have made through the years rather than concern themselves with trying to tie everything up neatly. Although the tone of the finale was pretty much perfect and it thematically ties up and concludes the series nicely..

It was quite awesome.

*Small Sploiler*

All I cared about at the end was Locke & Helen getting to be together, as well as Sayid & Nadia. I'd like to think they did. Almost everyone else got to be together, Jin & Sun, Charlie & Claire, Jack & Kate, etc. even Ben got to be with someone.

I thought the ending to Lost was pretty good. Although the endning probably won't satisfy and answer everyone's questions, it answered most of my questions and the series complete. It's been a great series for the past 6 years and it will be missed. I can't even count the number of times I drove by the filming sets around town for this series and seeing the cast around town during their off time.

I want to comment so bad but with what I want to say it would be spoiler city.  To sum it up:  I hated it.

While not answering the question "Why?" for each and every mystery, it was good that they didn't give some silly explanation that might as well have been "because." and then just ended the show.

The finale provided closure for the characters and was all very emotional, which is fine I think.  Similar kind of thing to Battlestar Galactica and the phrase "it's the journey, not the destination" is the only way to not be totally let down by what was, by lost's standards, an overly simplistic ending.

Seeing Jack happy with the dog and the plane flying overhead was some beautiful imagery that makes the rather lame ending much more uplifting. Hey, six years of TV, I've had plenty of the island, I'm sure most people have.

I liked the way those "in the know" were smiling towards those who have yet to figure things out. Especially the Sun-Jin-Sawyer scene at the hospital.

I also loved the Ben-Locke and Ben-Hugo bits outside the church (Terry O'Quinn has such a marvelous smile btw). I appreciated the significance of it all: How everything came full circle, how things were ending the way they started and how the word "lost" was significant in more than one level.

That finale made me genuinely happy.

I don't watch Lost, but I read the ending on IMDB and it seemed somewhat similar to the Ashes to Ashes finale, at least the whole you-know-what aspect in the last season or so.

At first, I was a bit disappointed with the way the show ended because it veered of the science-fiction path in the final season. Then I spent some time thinking about it and realized that this really was an amazing end to such a phenomenal show. I know people will complain that they weren't spoon feed the answers to every single question but I think the writers did a good job answering the questions that mattered and leaving the rest up to speculation. The only thing I didn't like was that Mr. Eko's character was never revisited. He's one of my favorite characters and it's a shame he had to leave the show :(. It also would have been nice if [spoilers] we could have seen a shot or two of Hurley and Ben some years after Kate, Sawyer, etc. left the island [/spoilers].

I'm going to pick up the blu-ray for all 6 seasons once it's out in August and rewatch the entire thing. I'm really going to miss this show :**(.

Well, I thought the finale was absolutely terrible.  The ending with them all hugging in the church was cheesy and Kate killing the man in black was extremely anticlimatic.  It kinda makes me want to never watch seasons 1-5 again knowing now hot it will all end.  More questions with really no point or conclusion other than them all dying and finding each other.  It really seems to me that the writers ran out of ideas for season 6 and pretty much made things up to lead to the finale.  In a way, season 5 could be the ending to the series.....
