Looking for the best setup for HiFiMAN Edition XS + WiiM Pro – final options shortlisted, but open to suggestions

I’ve always been passionate about HiFi, but this is my first proper setup with a slightly higher budget. After weeks of reading, comparisons, and a bit of obsession, I’ve finally narrowed my choices for a DAC + amp to pair with the HiFiMAN Edition XS and my WiiM Pro streamer.


I haven’t bought the headphones yet, but I found the Edition XS brand new for €300, which seems like the best value in this price range — especially considering I’m based in Italy, where availability and pricing can be tricky for many audio components.


Here are the main contenders I’ve shortlisted:


SMSL DO400 – €400 used / ~€500 new


xDuoo TA-22 – €480 new


Topping E70 Velvet + L70 stack – €620 new


Topping D30 Pro + A30 Pro – ~€510


I also considered the Chord Mojo 2, but since I plan to use the system exclusively at home in a very quiet environment, portability is not a priority for me.


What I’m looking for is great synergy with the Edition XS: enough power to drive them properly, good soundstage, detail, and overall sound quality. I already have the WiiM Pro as a digital streamer, so I’m focusing purely on DAC + amp options.


I listen to a wide range of musical genres, so versatility is appreciated.


If you have any alternative suggestions in a similar price range, especially models available in the EU or Italy, I’d really appreciate the input.

The Hifiman Edition XS is amazing for the price. I have the A30Pro D30Pro and E70 A70Pro stack, but the L70 are good too. Either one is terrific with plenty of power and noise floor. The DO400 is ok, has three of them but for the Hifiman the Topping L30 II E30II is a better value with lower noise floor for better detail.
I had the Xdoo last month and it's ok, but would take either Topping stack over it. If you can get the A70 Pro with E70 9028Pro stack, you'll never want to upgrade again, favorite combo of all.

The Singxer SA-1 V2 and xDuoo TA-20 Plussound really interesting. That said, I’d like to keep the total budget for the DAC + amp stack under €700.

Do you have any DAC recommendations that would pair well with each of those two amps?
And if you had to choose just one of the two amps specifically for the Edition XS, which would you go for – and why?

What’s your opinion on the E70 Velvet vs the non-Velvet, and do you think the price difference is justified?
