I want to give my son a Millett Hybrid amp and surprise him with his band's logo or picture from a CD cover or some such thing custom painted on the aluminum Hammond enclosure. Anyone do this or know someone who does? I have no qualms about paying good money for a job well done.

Thanks, Greg

Man, you are a really cool dad. I wish I could help you out, but unfortunately I do not know anyone that can do that.

Call all the autorepair places in your yellow pages. You will find some of the best local artisits that can airbrush, pinstripe, etc working under the guise of auto paint specilist! And having access to all those cans of automotive paint (the best for painting on metal anyways!) certainly helps also!

Check out your local silkscreeners. They can take an image or logo and create a screen from it. Then, the screen can be used to spray multiple things. One with the band's logo could be used to mark their gear, even.

Finally got the paint job I wanted. The photos do not do justice to the work done by Terry McCall in New Lebanon, OH, a suburb of Dayton. I tried all kinds of angles to show the depth and gloss, but I can't get the true effect. It's very high gloss black with clearcoat. The red logo looks to be very deep into the black. I nixed the Hammond idea and made an enclosure of my own. It is anodized aluminum, which had to be acid etched before painting. It will house an LM4780TA based chip amp instead of a Millett Hybrid.

The best part of it all is my son loves it. Needless to say, his band is metal.

The amp will be used with a very nice pair of Signet bookshelf speakers(Stereophile Recommended Class E, I think), a small 8" powered sub, and a pretty decent CD player. The set up is for a small apartment.
