for jazz+electronica... Amon Tobin definitely has the spirit of jazz in electronic form... i think his first album, Bricolage probably does j+e best.

also try...

Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die

where tobin is electronic co-opting jazz, tortoise is jazz co-opting electronic.

also, ken vandermark, noted above, is fantastic new jazz... but definitely not starter stuff. Medeski, Martin and Wood, while a little "hipper-than-thou" and adopted by jam-rock neu-hippies, is certainly an accessible starting point for jazz cum electronic. try the album Combustication... DJ Logic plays on it.

Another vote for Jaga Jazzist. Lars Horntveth has put out a solo album recently that is very good as well.

I would definitely recommend the following for Electronica with Jazz:

Squarepusher - Music is Rotted One Note
Amon Tobin - Bricolage
Amon Tobin - Permutation
Four Tet - Rounds

Amon Tobin's other albums are also great, but don't have much Jazz influence. Squarepusher has some other really good albums, but they can get pretty crazy/noisy at times. His newest (Ultravisitor) is one of the better IDM albums to come out in the last few years.

For just regular IDM, I'd recommend:

µ-ziq - Lunatic Harness
Aphex Twin - RDJ Album
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works (85-92)
Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy EP
Squarepusher - Go Plastic
Squarepusher - Ultravisitor
Autechre - Confield
Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
Chris Clark - Empty the Bones of You

Also, if you didn't already know, IDM stands for Internet Dork Music.

For electronica and jazz I would also recommend

Break Reform - Fractures
- New Perspective

The Grassy Knoll - The Grassy Knoll
- Positive
- III
- Short Stories

Mr. Scruff/Amon Tobin (has already been mentioned), some Giles Peterson (though recent efforts of his have more of a brazilian influence), the hotel costes series, and I'd second Mark Farina as well.
