I'm considering the Yamaha EPH-100SL, but the lack of volume controls and mic if I get a phone call is a minor ding.  For the price, is there anything better I can get?  I'm not looking for anyting more than a nice detailed sound.  I'd be willing to jump to $200 if there is a considerable difference in quality.  Also, if I can use them while running, that's a bonus, but not a necessity (dunno if i'd want to risk damaging IEMs at this price :))

Here's a bunch within that range:

Shure SE-215 with ipod controls are within the $150.00 range also.

If you can deal without the mic than the Ortofon e-Q5 is well worth the $198.99 they cost imo.  Balanced detailed sound with good bass and a large soundstage an sound every bit as good as the Westone W4 which is twice the price.

Also the Hifiman RE262 and Rockit R-50 are really good sounding IEM's though I like the e-Q5 just a tad bit better.  All three would be fine for running, I've jogged with them all and had no problems but make sure you don't get sweat in them.

The Etymotic HF5, GR07, GR01, DBA-02 and Klipsch Image X10i are very detailed IEMs and offers good isolation. But with added remote//volume control these IEMs ( Harmen Kardon AE, HF3, Sony XBA3i, UE TF10i, Image X10i,) are recommended.

Let me ask one more stupid question.  Between the ATH-CKM500is for about $90 on Amazon, the Shure SE215k for $100 and the EPH 100 SL at $150, which will give the best bang for my buck?

Definetly ckm500, they are way better than se215(i have both), eph100 should be around same level.

Way better? You mean in your opinion, right? I kept the SE-215 and sold off my CKM500.

I'm with you, a friend of mine has the ckm500 and I didn't think it sounded as good as what some have clamed but everyone has different sound signatures they like.  I think for the price your willing to spend you can get one that sounds better than the ckm500.

if u can somehow get a pair of this...its heaven at earthly price...seems to be discontinued..:p
Everyday i am astounded by its sound thru my ipad as i sit by the river... listening to bossa nova breakfast channel.
Deep clear bass...3D soundstage, smooth clear highs without sibilance.
