I'm finally looking to upgrade my headphones. I bought a pair of Ultrasone HFI-780s about 5-6 months ago and for a first pair of headphones, was relatively pleased. However I soon figured out how terrible of comfort they provided and figured I could also find something better sounding, surely.

The main genres of music I listen to are Electronic/EDM (DNB, House, Glitch-Hop, some Dubstep), Hip-Hop/Rap, and a select handful of Alternative music artists. Here are some links to the styles of music I enjoy:

As you can assume I think I would qualify as a bass-head. I want something with jaw-droppingly deep bass. Nothing artificial which I feel like the HFI-780s produce slightly. I want something that can hit those low frequencies with ease, but at the same time not drown out the mids or highs (I do enjoy some good vocals as well). I've looked around at the Beyerdynamic DT 990s but am wondering if the extra bass is what I'm looking for or if the Beyerdynamic DT 880s have more than enough.

Besides music I'll probably be using these for gaming as well (quake, cs, some rts), but that's not want I'm focusing on. So if they have a good soundstage great! However I as long as they produce sound it's not going to be the deciding factor.

And lastly COMFORT. I want something that I won't remember I'm wearing. The HFI-780s give me this dagger-skull feel after prolonged used and I always find myself repositioning them.

I haven't decided whether or not I'll buy a pair that needs amperage or not, so I'd like recommendations from both sides (if you know a good amp pair for the headphones state that too). Regardless I'm trying to spend under $500.00.

Thanks in advance.

Soundstage and bass are not often used in the same boat when your on a budget, especially accurate soundstage and deep subbass.

But with $500 I'm sure we can make a plan.
What sources/amps have you got?
