I'm looking for a new CD player to use as a transport, but that has decent quality if I don't use it with a dac. So far the only one I've found is the Marantz line either the CC4003, or CD5004. I will be using this with my Meier StageDAC so I would like the colour to match that of the dac. Here is a picture in comparison, since its just a transport I would really like it to have a black aluminium faceplate.

Between those I'd take the CD5004. I haven't seen a multi-disc changer transport that didn't wobble somewhere, but usually it's on the very mount for the spindle and the laser.

If you can forgo the brushed black aluminum for other hues, Shanling has a midi-sized CD player in black.

Depends on the downstream components, it might result in jitter that can't be corrected, and the downstream components might be transparent enough that you'd hear the difference. I stuck blutak on the wobbly areas and the bass improved. In other gear theoretically you might not have as solid a platform as others - like my old Sony CDP, XE700, where the transport is built onto the tray - but I see no wobbles and the "blind"/indiscriminate application of blutak didn't yield any audible improvements.

Here's the thing though: CD changers being wobbly in construction, in general, why not just a single disc player with a USB or other digital input? That way if you just need long-play from a digital library (that will actually surpass what you can cram into 5 CDs) you can use that as a DAC for your PC or flash drive; if you're litening critically, then just pop a disc in the transport. Also, in the even it stops reading CDs (which happens in a few years), you can still use it as a DAC until you can get it fixed. Or just use it that way until it conks out completely.

And of course there is still the Marantz.

Find an old Rega Planet.  I'm especially taken with the original model that is cast aluminum.  You can find them for $200-$300 now.

They make a good transport and they still look futuristic.  Anyone who doesn't know what it is will think you dropped a couple thousand on it.  They're really nice.  Oh, and they're black.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take a look at all these suggested, and see if I can try any locally, I know there is a local cambridge audio dealer, so I'll drop by there, and I'll take a look at the Rega to see if there are any in my area.
