I'm using Sony PHA-1(connected with laptop through USB cable) and looking for an upgrade Amp/DAC at $500 budget. My headphone is Beyerdynamic T5P; I listen to Asian pop and Classical music a lot.

Do you need a portable amp/DAC? Or would a separate amp/DAC meant for desktop use do? If so, check into Schiit audio products. Very good DACs and Amps.
