He's not nearly as bad as I am. I came in wanting the GLite ($299) and now the least I'll be spending is a bit over 2k and that's just on the amp.

Indeed. Even in the process of configuring I'm already contemplating my next upgrade.

Saturnine, personally if I were in your shoes I would resist the temptation of buying an uber expensive amp. I personally believe that going for a good amp under $1000 and then using the rest of your budget on a new source (maybe one of the new dacs that have recently come out) would give you a better overall upgrade. Don't get me wrong the 1212m is a great source for the price (I used to own one), but the Eastsound for me was so much better. It wasn't even close. Also initial reports seem to point to these new dacs even sounding a bit better than the Eastsound.

Believe me, I have considered a completely balanced rig, but it is quite a bit more than I'd like to spend ATM.

Also, does anyone know what the current prices are on the Singlepower amps?

hold your horses! Upgrade that source a bit first... I have a ppx3 6sn7 with
5687 adapters, it's really nice! It gives you basiclly a slam with the convenaince of being not a slam also..you can do the same thing with the mpx3 also..

Don't go al the way up to the ranks of supra without atleast getting a nicer source though.

Supra XLR - $3500

There's actually a thread that lists most of the prices, search for it.

I think the MPX3/slam balanced for around $2K would be a killer amp with the Grados.

I'm actually scheduled to have one built around that price, but I'm considering going with a Supra as it's a better platform if I ever go balanced.

Congrats on the PPX3 squall! LMK what you think

You guys do have a point though, the 1212m isn't a good enough source for a $1000+ amp. I'll probably end up settling for a PPX3 Slam (or maybe one like mjg's) & a DAC of some sort. I'll also hold off on purchasing till after the national meet, I'm sure there will be plenty of amps to demo

mrarroyo, by searching I see that you like the Ear+ very much

Have you by any chance compared it with a Singlepower amp?
