Yeah, when I tend to acquire "party" alcohol like that, it all tends to go fairly quickly (hours, not days), but I've always got a bottle or two of single malt, and usually a bottle of nice port on the go for a "wee-dram" every now and again.

Yeah, but as much as people play up the effects of alcohol...

I don't think that it can turn you into something that you are not. Honestly, it just makes you more of your true-r self. I have never done anything drunk that I wouldn't do sober ( and that does include homework).

For some reason, when I am just really stuck on something a half-shot really gets me going on the problem again. It doesn't happen often, but on some programming assignments it can be hell. Once, I did my homework pretty darn drunk and I got it 100% correct, except that instead of doing the problems from chapter 9 - I did the ones from 12. I got a 50% when I first got it back (because only half teh problems were effected). After discovering that this is the reason, I ended up getting 80% because the professor was just so impressed that I had worked and knew more advanced material.

I think that sometimes, just a little bit calms the nerves a bit and allows you to see around the problem rather than through it. Aleve can do the same thing though.

This year I took a friend's advice and did a half-shot before all of my finals. My grades have actually improved by a large margin! My lowest grade this year has been a B... and that is in engineering...the average GPA in my discipline is a C+.....I am soooo stoked! And I don't even cheat!

Well... my classes did actually have purpose this year and I have been motivated to get my work done beforehand....

If you can do your homework drunk, you're not drunk. In fact, you're not even close. I can tell you that for a fact.

And yes, alcohol calms you down, but I wouldn't recommend it frequently as it actually has a detrimental effect on your ability to remember things.

In general, alcohol is not a good thing, but my theory is "everything in moderation", and, of course, I can always enjoy a good drink every once in a while. Right now I haven't been to a party in months, though. Schoolwork is the opposite of drinking... in my mind, they can't be farther apart.

Just because YOU haven't done anything different on alcohol doesn't mean it's the same for everyone. I have seen people change dramatically when alcohol came into play and trust me, not for the better. A little short-sighted if I may say so as it seems you think of your experiences as a fact (based on another thread as well).

I think it boils down to whether your character is dependant on your inhibitions or not.

I know a guy who's day to day personality is a matter of constant struggle. Deep down, he's a tremendous a-hole. But he doesn't want to be one, so he has habits that prevent him from acting like one.

So, for example, if a conversation turns in a direction where he has an opportunity to say something snide or condescending, you can *see the restraint in his eyes as he just gets up and leaves the room.

It's a good thing he doesn't drink.

Well...considering that I couldn't rememeber the chapter or really much about doing it... I was drunk.

Moderation is key --- somewhat said by the fact that I still have alcohol from 7 months ago.
