Has anyone seen or heard a Linn Sondek cd player? I have a guy in town that has one for sale and wants me to come and listen or even take it home for a week or so to test drive it. Are they worth the $$ or should I just buy a Merridian if I am putting up a couple k for the Linn? Anyone have any experience with them? Thanks.

Edit: At the beginning of this post I put the cdp that he wanted to sell me was a Linn Sondek, its not a sondek. I just found out that the Sondek is like $20,000. I thought that Linn Sondek was the brand, but its just Linn. Sondek is a model. Sorry to anyone who read this and knew what the Sondek was.

I think a good alternative is the Linn ikemi. It has a similar sonic signature to the Linn Sondek cd12. I like the Linn Ikemi because it offers maybe 95% of the Linn cd12's performance for a fraction of the price. But I don't like the Linn cd 12 as for the price it should obliterate everything but to be honest it doesn't come close. I find the placement as in regards to where the listener is placed is not to my liking. For the money I rather get a Naim cd3x or try the reimyo 777 for the money.

Yeah but the $14000 tag is a bit steep. In the UK it costs £5000 ex demo and used they usually sell for £4000-4500 used. When you consider what that could get in top end used transport/dacs then the price is not so competitive. But good luck on his sale.

but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy it in the UK and import it instead??? You save more money.

sure enough. But if thats the price he paid for it hes not gonna sell it half price or even less, thats understandable. I think importing english gear to the US would cost u a bundle in customs tax as customs in the US is pretty uptight. In my case, being in France, the best deal is of course buying from the UK, but US buyers might be more interested in his. Like PinkFloyd who was selling his 325i for 190 pounds (360USD) shipped in Europe, hes from the UK yea, but if i import one from the US i pay it 295USD+shipping (10-15USD) and no customs tax, so thats much more interesting to me, even if it comes from a place farther away. Kinda makes my head hurt ^^

Frankly, paying 15000USD for a CD Player better mean that CD Player blows my mind... Anyone know how that compares to a Meridian G08 for example? In terms of quality, does the G08 come close?

For $15000 it would have to blow more than my mind!

Nik is selling his CD12 due to lack of SACD capabilities. I thought he'd never let go of that baby. I would love to do a comparison with the Linn and the Esoteric X01 SACD player for $13K, which received rave reviews.
