LHY Audio RPI

I have the R26 too. Its use of a R26 connected external clock with different inputs is a little more nuanced: always in play for asynchronous inputs (USB, LAN), only referred for synchronous (I2S etc) when R26 is doing oversampling (i.e. NOS off).Gustard clarified this over email. In my experience there’s definitely benefits from using a lower jitter/phase noise external clock as a reference for multiple devices, including upstream asynchronous ones like USB regens and switches. My view is that’s because each such device operates more precisely generating cleaner square wave output signals making the life of the next device in the chain easier, and so on down the chain. Not because they’re ‘in sync’ with the DAC at the end of the chain. [current case in point is the LAiV, no ext clock input but most definitely benefits from the upstream ext clocking I just described.. no ‘syncing’ there] Though I can imagine how syncing the sender and recipient devices of a synchronous data stream (streamer/DDC & R26) like I2S might be beneficial.
thanks for your valuable input. so just to be clear. if i have nos disabled in r26 and using good quality external clock this will be beneficial?

here is the funny part.
My source is computer connected to DDC u18 feeding by lhy clock ock2. Gustard r26 dac.
burson voyager to timekeeper GT3 and spendor classic 4/5 speakers. all of this is connected rto isotek aquarious.

when i disable the nos. anything which is pcm volume goes very low. dsd works fine. Using upsampling from roon

In this scenario, yes, according to Gustard to get the benefit of an R26 directly connected external clock it needs to be in PCM NOS OFF, noting that you’re already getting the benefit via the U18 which sends the clock signal over I2S which in NOS ON mode the R26 uses theoretically untouched. What I suggest you do is connect the OCK-2 to both and try different settings (NOS ON/OFF) and then try with the OCK-2 connected to one or the other and listen to see what you notice, prefer. As in practice I found there was still an uptick in the sound, if more subtle, in NOS ON/DSD Direct ON modes over I2S. As to why this is, I can only speculate, but expect the K2 clock synthesiser continuing to use the external reference for its functions is part of the explanation.

As to volume, the R26 volume is variable with PCM NOS OFF, fixed at max on NOS ON, you may just have it set lower on PCM NOS OFF… turn it up to max using the remote then there should be no volume difference switching between the two.

Sorry this is a bit OT for everyone else.

Do you think the Gentooplayer will run on it?
I would say yes as it is actually a pure PI4 that runs with a clean power supply and even with a clock.
It would appeal to me, even though I was considering the Red a little earlier.
It's not easy to decide, but I think it's good that there's consistency.

Think so...as you have said its a Pi4 Model B.
Red adds a DCC while RPI has (as you said) LPS and clock.
Think is also designed as part of an ecosystem with other LHY Audio products: Clock, UIP, FMC etc.. (an advantage if you have these already).

Unfortunately not.
But I've been looking for a streamer to replace the PC for a while now.
Even though I have installed the Matrix Element X camera in the PC.

With the streamer I would rather get away from the PC a bit and just be able to operate the Ipad with Roon Arc without necessarily having to sit at the PC.

Yes, the DDC is interesting with the Red, but I have a Singxer Su2.
Modernising it wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Thanks @Jake2 !

Yeah for those who are yet building or for those who have multiple products (clocks, fmc, usb regen etc.), this could fit the bill.

There are a lot of streamers, but not a lot w/ clock input or with lps (to reduce clutter) at an affordable price.
I wonder, however, how can a USB signal be of quality if you use the high noise bus of a simple raspberry? For example Holo Red uses a CM4 module and a separate very low noise USB bus. This is really the only doubt I have about a device that otherwise seems excellent.

On page 1, LHY RPI has a built in LPS and OCXO and an external MCLK to limit those noises.

Will it be able to run NAA OS? Unfortunately, I don't see a microSD slot like in the RED.

Goto Vinshine Audio's product page.

OK, microSD card slot is inside the device🙌

Yes, I'm waiting for it too, the incentive would have been there if Black Friday had been a little more accommodating.
Unfortunately they didn't offer a discount.
At the moment there doesn't seem to be anything for Europe where you could buy it.
LHY Audio wrote to me not to buy on Aliexpress or Ebay because of possible grey goods or defective goods or even counterfeits.
Doesn't make things any easier.
In a French forum there was someone who bought it but unfortunately he doesn't get back to me.

Well you are our only hope for a review lol thanks for biting the nail. i hope it is worth it. i bought the

LHY Audio OCK-2 1 year ago from aliexpress. so far so good. i am using it with gustard r26. it is defiantly an upgrade
