@markm1 Here's some of the better new OSDM bands around right now. There are many more out there of course, but these are my favorite, and in my opinion the best. If any others come to mind I'll post them in the near future.

Thanks Campj. I'm listening  to some of these tracks now. Excellent! The only ones I was familiar with were Disma and Dead Congregation. Thanks for taking the time to post these. Good stuff.

That's the album that has introduced many people to Nokturnal Mortum.

You can listen to most of their other stuff here: http://nokturnalmortum1.bandcamp.com

Unfortunately, some of those digital versions (especially The Voice Of Steel) are remastered and don't sound as good as the original, in my opinion.

it is very special-a lot of older black metal albums have that charm to them-honesty,atmosphere etc-
i intend to work through nms discography-voice of steel is good.
i abhor a lot of new stuff-sounds horrible-pro tool garbage-sure if andy sneaps doing it its fine-

Have you heard both the original and remaster? The remaster sounds so different I thought it was rerecorded at first!

I haven't, I only have what I am assuming is the original, since I bought it not long after it came out. I'll have to find the remaster and see how different it is. I assume that's the remaster on their bandcamp? There were somethings in the production that I didn't care for on that album. Sometimes things would get lost or muddled in the wall of sound.

Yeah. The Bandcamp version is the same as the 2 CD deluxe remaster.

Holy ****, I'm listening to it now. You aren't kidding, it totally sounds like they re-recorded everything. Huge difference.

I feel that the ideal production for this album would be something between the raw original and the polite remaster. Too much of the intensity is lost in the remaster.

I also feel that the melodic sections (especially guitar leads) save this album, because otherwise it's just more of the same style they've established.

Probably the remaster. The original is easy to find on YouTube if you want to check.

I'm on my second play-through of the remixed version, and I'm really liking it. I'm listening at home on my Fostex's, and they are really doing this mix better justice than my work pair of JBLs.

I don't really care for some of the changed effects they put on some things here and there, but god damn, the production and mix are way more clear than the original.

It's true that it's more clear and distinct, but did you notice how the power and intensity has been toned down as well? For this reason I still prefer the original.

I'm a long-time Nokturnal Mortum fan (something like 14 years), so this album is nowhere near my favorite by them.
