Lets Talk Metal

I didn't really think much of carach angren before, but last night changed my mind. Inquisition was very interesting with Dagon rushing back and forth between mics (lol), and abysmal dawn was alright. Deicide never disappoints, although glen should keep his wondering thoughts to himself

I'm going to the same concert when they come to Oakland! I'm coming to see Carach Angren, Inquisition and SepticFlesh; skipping AD and Deicide, mainly because I don't really listen to either. Abysmal Dawn seems like bland generic technical death metal and Deicide I'm simply not familiar with.

Dagon is quite a character, and it's awesome that he seems to enjoy playing so much. Carach Angren's lead vocalist/guitarist also seems quite charistmatic and animated as well. I take it you quite enjoyed yourself?

Would that thing be a good way to start of my vinyl odyssey?

  Holy ****!
The new Beyond Creation album kicks all the butts. Seriously, there is not butt that is not being kicked right now.

Yesterday I gave in and borrowed it from teh intarnetz (I promise to return it as soon as Bandcamp notifies me I can download my own copy..) and this morning my butt was finally not not being kicked. It is funking awesome! Can't wait to actually get to know it...

I feel recording quality has come down. Not sure yet.

I think I know what you mean now. To me the guitar and bass sound a little less clean than they did on The Aura. I'm not sure yet that this is a bad thing - in death metal. With all due respect, praise and indeed worship to The Aura, it was highly polished. The current production sounds a bit more raw and I'll be damned if that wasn't intentional. Also I'm loving the even more central place the bass is getting, without overshadowing the rest of the awesomeness going on...

  Why exactly?
Any recommendations?

As for why, speed variance and wow/flutter specs are deplorable, most built in preamps are usually garbage, and the built-in A/D converter is worse than what even your computer would have.

Pro-ject Debut Carbon's spec sheet lists Wow and Flutter at +/- 0.10% and speed drift at +/- 0.80% which is really damn good based on the little research I've done. It has insane recommendations all across the board from every review I've read. I plan to pick one up with a Schiit Mani when vinyl is at the top of my priority list again. Saving for Aperion Verus Grand towers is at the top right now.

I agree that every turntable I've heard with a built in preamp sounds like pure garbage. I don't know about Pro-ject, but with the low price of those tables, I can't imagine them sounding very good.

A friend of mine has a U-turn Orbit with a cheap pyle preamp and it is actually pretty awesome as well. He loves it for sure.

Seriously, I'm enjoying this record way more than their debut. A lot more exciting and interesting sections in general at first listen. "Earthborn Evolution" (the song) epitomizes everything I love about the band.

I also downloaded it from the interwebs, but that's also because I pre-ordered the vinyl already and so I can justify it. I just need to get my TT fixed, now...

Hmmm I came across all of these during my research.
Too bad I only have like $350 for the whole setup (turntable + amp). Only the Denon would fit into my budget with it's built-in amp, but according to you guys this thing would sound like arse if I use this amp.

Being able to digitize my vinyls would be pretty neat, but I guess I could buy one of these USB box thingys later.

You could get the LP120, use it's built in for a while then get an art dj pre or tc-750 later..... Or wait until you have enough for a Carbon+Mani ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Okay thanks!
And the LP120 has better speed variance and wow/flutter specs (I don't even know what that means...)?
