i've been trying to increase my collection (and knowledge) of thrash (and metal in general), especially from a historical context.  i just discovered this oldie but really enjoying it (and embarrassingly never heard of it), so i thought i'd share a track for yall

Razor rips, Evil Invaders is a killer album, check it out if you haven't heard it yet.  If you're on a quest for classic thrash, here's a few of my favorite 3rd and 4th tier bands:

Blessed Death - Pig Slaughter

Exciter - Heavy Metal Maniac

Atrophy - Chemical Dependency
Totally bogus art, but this rips.  Skip to the minute mark unless you want to sit through a bunch of intro noises.

Demolition Hammer - .44 Caliber Brain Surgery

Let me know if you want more...

I compared two FLAC versions and got almost the same numbers. On Vanitas the TT Meter actually dips into DR2 for two songs making the average under DR3, hence my score.

This is by FAR the worse produced CD I have heard this year.

I also found the "turn the bass" up comment from them to be disheartening since it shows their complete lack of understanding of dynamic range.

Vanitas is really a shame on so many levels given how strong musically it is.

Criminally underrated, Miyazaki film-inspired, cinematic Symphonic Extreme metal from Grand Nippon. Still remains one of my favorite records bearing the symphonic flavor of all time. The youtube compression/quality really undermines how expansive this record sounds.

But... in other news:

Lunar Aurora:

Dear friends,

it has always been clear that also LUNAR AURORA will end some day. And this autumn we felt that it is time to lay the band to rest. We came to that decision for various reasons, the two following may be the most significant. On one hand our imaginations of future musical projects are difficult to reconcile with LUNAR AURORA, on the other hand we feel that LUNAR AURORA is out of tune with these times. We have never been people that speechify, so we won't make a big deal out of that, either.

It have been 18 great years and for that we want to say a big "THANK YOU!" to the people who have been with us during those years. Especially the fans as well as the bands we played with or did projects with. Not to forget the magazines, distributors, concert promoters, without whom publicity would not have been possible. Our label partners Frank Stöver, Andreas Lacher and Tom Wahl we owe deep thankfulness for their energy and trust.

With deep gratefulness we think of our bandmates Sindar, Nathaniel, Profanatitas, Biil, Skoarth and Bernhard Klepper for all they did for LUNAR AURORA with great dedication.

Although there won't be a new LUNAR AURORA album anymore, we will make sure that the long out of stock albums "... of stargates...", "Elixir of Sorrow" and "A haudiga Fluag" will be available through COLD DIMENSIONS within the next 1-2 years.

Until we meet again...

Sigh... right as they were back on with a new record they disappear yet again, but seemingly more definitive this time. I know MaZa is probably howling right now.

This may be the most underrated metal drumming record of all time! I'm just amazed at the talent here.

So I was listening to 'Lateralus - Tool' and I was thinking I never noticed their drumming. While I am listening, my Foobar customization allows me to see Band's biography and I am reading about the album and there is a list of best drum records of all time and Lateralus is number 1 on it. (http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_albums-drum.html). So I go to the list and just do random search of the albums that I could remember which had awesome drummers and all of them were featured there.

Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Mastodon - Leviathan
Death - Sounds of Perseverance
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Don Caballero 2 - Don Caballero

And then I remembered this thread and wanted to tell Mr. REDCARMOOSE;

Mastodon Metal Drumming is not UNDERRATED!! PERIOD
