To put it mildly, I have been underwhelmed with releases so far this year. What I have heard from this album is fantastic though!

Out of all the announced new releases, the only thing I'm really looking forward to in Enslaved. Do you guys think I should have anything else on my radar?

I'm still catching up on 2014. Finally put everything on a 2013-14 playlistz: Panopticon-Thou-Machine Head-Old Man Gloom- EyeHateGod-Behemoth-Primordial-Tombs-Godflesh-Revocation-Opeth-Solstafir-Krieg-Evergrey-Truckfighters-Melvins-Boris-At the Gates-Bloodbath-Dead Congregation-Lord Mantis-Epica-Black Crown Initiate-YOB-Electric Wizard...

Last year there were a handful of standouts to me-Carcass, Agrimonia, Cult of Luna, Voivod, Darkthrone, Gorguts. This year there  was a larger number of releases I got into.

Also been young punk band, White Lung that I think have some metal/hard rock appeal-but they are definitely a female fronted punk band a little like L7/Courtney Love but I think better.

Still reeling over the strong releases last year. It would be great to have another good  Enslaved release tho.

That Gorguts man... I get more and more into that as time goes by. I think it's one of my favorite all time releases. I agree that 2013 and 2014 were both great years.

To name a few albums that get very regular rotation from me...
2014 releases: Artificial Brain, Pyrrhon, Baring Teeth (took me a little while to get into this one, but it's really good),Horrendous, Ne Obliviscaris, Origin, Archspire (DR of 4! haha), ZOM, Panopticon, Carcass

2013 releases: Gorguts (FOR THE WIN!), Wormed, Ulcerate, Voivod is pretty sweet, Witherscape, Deeds of Flesh, Monolithe, Ataraxie, The Ocean (!!!), Cerekloth

If 2015 is going to measure up to the last two years, a lot has to happen.

I forgot about Ocean. That was a great release.

Febuary 23rd were going to get a new Watain record with them playing live Bathory covers. Recorded about five years ago.

They have great live recordings! I listen to and watch the DVD in my box set all the time!

So, I've been slowly transforming a small (10x12ish) computer room into a listening room which of course is going to be playing a lot of metal! (and a lot of other stuff).

After saving and looking at different systems, I'm planning on upgrading the electronics in my listening room/computer room. I'll probably keep my current shelf speakers for now and upgrade a little later if I feel the need.

One of the components I'm looking at is a Nuprime DAC/preamp and headphone amp that I'll use as part of my speaker system, Sonos and my PC for computer audio. May pair it with a Clones integrated amp. Looking at different system matches. I like the idea of a HP amp/DAC that will also serve a traditional 2 channel desk top kind of set up w/ speakers on either side of my PC. Less gear-I hope I like the way the HP amp sounds. Would be nice to have fewer moving parts so to speak in my little room.

Nuprime took over the "higher end" product line of Nuforce. It's a new product. A guy I've been working with who is going to bring it over to my house w/ some different amps in February. I'll get a chance to demo it in my room w/ my speakers and throw some metal at it....

Thanks for taking a look. I always enjoy your analysis of gear....I'll let you know how I think it sounds.

I though these 16lb beasts were so cool in 2012!

The Reference 20 is the better match for that preamp being balanced.

just picked it up based entirely on you posting the cover, it's pretty cool!  kind of a weird mix of styles, based on a post-hardcore sludge vibe.  it's produced nice as well to my ears (haven't DR'd yet) but my only complaint is that it's produced more like hardcore...as in not much low end.  i prefer my sludge a little dirtier with more bass
