I bought a 5998 of ebay and it's not sounding anything like what I've read about... So I'm just curious if they're not broken in or if they're fake.

What headphones are you using? From my experience, the 5998 doesn't sound good with HD650s. I like the 7236 with HD650.

It looks like the real deal to me also and it's surely one of my favorite power tubes, it has a smoothness that can't be missed maybe you have a bad tube..enjoy

Made in 1957, like the one on the left. Structure is different from the ones made on and after 1958 (middle 1963).
